Sue
Just had a clear out.Apart from realising what a very odd collection of food I have (kombu seaweed? Relatively young with a sell by date of May 2005), the oldest thing was one of those squeezy containers of Heinz Tomato Ketchup - sell by December 2004 :-$I don't even like tomato ketchup :))Poured it down the sink and it looked like I was trying to dispose of the evidence of a murder. SimonM
You could have composted it :-)I have a bottle of sweet white wine that's at least 30 years old....I cannot imagine ever drinking it. It sits glumly in the cellar looking decidedly middle-aged... giggirl
Some of my spices are at least a decade old. I have cloves from Zanzibar and they are 12 years old. They age well (just like me). giggirl
My friend, with whom I stayed on Zanzibar, still had some cloves that his mother had had before she met his father. I don't cook with them to be honest but sometimes I will agitate them and then take the lid off and inhale the scent. It's one of my favourite smells; cloves, gardenia and lavender. Andystar
My dear old dad is the king of 'past its sell by date' foods. The majority of anything in his cupboards was a few years out- shame he didn't have an original Wispa, I reckon that it would have fetched a bit on ebay.
