I think it was 1706 the next one, I just made it to my appt anyway.

Fact is, trains are inconsistent enough generally that you have to factor in a service not running if you want to be sure of getting to LB on time. I failed to do that which was no-one's fault but my own.

I tried claiming for a cancelled train, last week I think. I'd done so before a few times. When I tried to log in to the site it didn't recognise my password. Maybe I'd forgotten it but I generally use the same one for things I consider unimportant. So I used the 'forgotten your password' option. I'm still waiting for an email.


Did this happen to anyone else? Seems like a good way of putting people off bothering to claim.

New compensation scheme announced for Southern Rail customers ? in addition to Delay Repay:

Tens of thousands of Southern rail passengers are to be repaid the equivalent of a month?s travel for the extraordinary disruption they have suffered, the government announced today (2 December 2016).


More than 84,000 passengers will be compensated to recognise the particular hardship of those who have suffered long delays, cancellations and disruption in recent months. This disruption is due to a number of causes including Network Rail track failures, engineering works, unacceptably poor performance by the operator and the actions of the RMT union.


Season ticket holders will be able to claim a refund for the equivalent of a month?s (4 weeks) travel. That means an annual season ticket holder will be able to claim a refund against their 2016 ticket, which can be paid directly into their bank account.


This is a one off compensation payment and is in addition to the improved Delay Repay 15 compensation scheme, which will begin operation on Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR) services from December 11, ministers announced today....


... Customers claiming against quarterly, monthly or weekly tickets must have bought travel for at least 12 weeks between 24 April 2016 and 31 December 2016 to be eligible.


GTR will also be able to consider proof of purchase from people claiming this compensation who are not registered with the company...

Will it even be applicable for people using TfL/Oyster travelcards? It is clearly different for us who can go via alternate (though inconvenient) routes vs someone totally reliant on Southern services commuting from outside of London.


Does anyone know what a typical ED travelcard user might be entitled to, if anything?

So would assume yes. For those of us on pay as you go, it is clearly viewed that we could take one of the many other alternatives avoiding southern and therefore we weren't forced to pay for a service we couldn't use... Obviously misses the point that there is no real viable alternative, but I understand why the distinction has been drawn.

You can register your Oyster Card on the TfL website, which will show the last eight weeks of journeys, that also show any additional payments, such as PAYG. I believe you can't request any further information longer than two months.


I'd suggest in future that you register on the TfL website, then request a weekly email which obviously will be stored in your email folder for as long as you want.

I suspect you can use old bank statements too. They should be able to reconcile these with their payments system.

The information is very fluid. It appears the Wimbledon's are cancelled now, while the 0809 is back on the timetable.


So between 8-9am, the through services to LB are 09, 29 and 56. One from Beckenham Junction, two from West Croydon.

Where are you getting this information? There isn't a 09, 29, or 56, or are you talking arrivals?

    • Thanks for that - none  of mine  have been Mordena - whilst vulnerable cat, think I will just take my chances… Will be having flu though - certainly not by choice - much prefer not to but in vulnerable group.. Avoided them until last year…. Luck of drawer if you are as sick as fog  or just sore arm … assume - god knows - that flu jab is same throughout country.       
    • Wow, that is what it costs for one prisoner. So they get full board and lodging, 24 hour  monitoring  in over populated prison, we are led to believe, minimum exercise, assume a tv in each cell provided - in USA it is together with wash hand basin and c toilet - some have showers as well.   Clearly this amount of money takes  into account overstretched and overworked prison officers, protection for them, counselling which is, in my opinion a bare minimum dealing with prisoners in all settings. Do if Sweden can look outside the box, why can’t we? Or are we just not bothered at all / read statistics some where that reoffending is normal and to be frank, with economy as it is at the moment re employment, cost of living and homelessness..not surprised they reoffend to get back inside - food provided, roof over your head - much better than street living, mixing with wrong crowd, trying to get roof over your head, find a job where 90 % won’t employ you as been inside..
    • @beansprout The Swedes seem to have a useful strategy with regard to offenders  which has reduced repeat offending.  I agree that prison time for minor offences is a complete waste of time. Even worse is that prisons are "colleges of crime" where inmates learn about how to be do crimes and worst of all, become exposed to drug taking. I wouldn't advocate having chain gangs as in the USA but some strategy for getting them into say manual work under supervision might be useful - especially if it came with a modest wag. This would be significantly cheaper than the £51,100 it costs per year for  keeping one in jail.
