Defo a step too far, give me Orville the duck any time, or the gorilla from the cadburys advert, over Phil "the gimp" Collins.

Keef... you know damned well that Jeff Beck is King Of The Strings. He certainly doesn't get enough credit because he hasn't sold as many records as those you've just mentioned. He's never sold out to commercialism. It's because he doesn't give a fuck and just does his own thing.

Yeah, Jeff Beck is most certainly one of the greatest, and you're right, he probably doesn't get the credit he deserves. My point though is that there are probably people out there who are just as good, or better, who we'll never hear of.

Slash is still my favourite though ;-)

1) All the musicians I know who are making amazing music that hardly anyone gets to hear because the big money favours glutinous pap.

2) Cathal Coughlan. Extraordinary, fiercely intelligent songwriter (with a magnificent, Scott-Walker-ish voice) who seamlessly melds beauty and horror, poetry and politics, sorrow and wit, love and rage, the sublime and the ridiculous.

And speaking of sublime and ridiculous:

3) Cud. Because they fill me with joy and make me dance - and Carl Puttnam is a big, daft, blubbery love god!

Phil Collins doesn't get enough credit? Au contraire.

From wikipedia:

"Collins is one of only two recording artists that have ever been a principal member of a band that has sold at least 100 million albums worldwide, and sold at least 100 million albums worldwide as a solo artist"

"when his work with Genesis, his work with other artists, as well as his solo career is totalled, Collins has the most top 40 hits on the Billboard charts for the 80s"

Here is a list of his major awards and nominations: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_awards_and_nominations_received_by_Phil_Collins

HOW THE HELL COULD ANYBODY POSSIBLY BE MORE OVERRATED??

Thinking of anyone in particular there, Keef?
