DirtyBox
change your diet, it can have a remarkable effect, my girlfriend went from total psyco to relatively sane with only a few simple changes to her diet: http://www.womenfitness.net/manage-pms.htm Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/11380-pms-hacked-off-with-it/#findComment-325114 Share on other sites

RosieH
Mick Mac, if I see the words "tin hat week" appear in any your posts, I'm going to come round there and bludgeon you and get my doctor to say I was suffering from PMS. giggirl
Get a Mirena coil fitted. Of course this isn't a solution if you're trying to get pregnant but if not really don't hesitate. PeckhamRose
Isn't there a specialist department at our own very wonderful Kings College Hospital dealing with this?Get a referral from your doctor but do NOT go see Mr Whitehead at Gynae department. He is a bully and very rude. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/11380-pms-hacked-off-with-it/#findComment-325202 Share on other sites

Carrie
I'd second the Mirena coil - not entirely pleasant having it fitted but then no need to even think about it for about 5 years Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/11380-pms-hacked-off-with-it/#findComment-325219 Share on other sites

TillieTrotter
I was talking to a friend last night who said she'd had a Mirena coil fitted and it has literally changed her life! I'd never heard of it. giggirl
Mirena coil changed my life. If you're not trying to conceive and you're struggling with PMS you would be mad not to give it a whirl. giggirl
I'm a great believer in a good diet and plenty of exercise so that's all good. This should be a way of life for us all. The OP says my homicidal/suicidal PMS moodswings are lasting for over a week nowadays. I suffered for years from severe PMS-related depression. I don't mean feeling a bit down about things I mean huge black dogs hunting in packs. Diet and exercise didn't help my symptoms at all because I became my own worst enemy for one week a month. I would stay inside as much as possible, wouldn't go out to the gym or see friends; would either eat next to nothing or eat all the wrong things. So, at the exact time that my body needed all the right foods and vitamins I would be crying indoors, eating carbs and downing gin to take the edge off how bloody awful I felt.Mirena coil is the way to go. It's not for everyone but check it out. Try googling "PMS Mirena coil" - you should find forums where this is discussed in detail. It changed my life. It sounds very dramatic but it's true. All those years of black dogs all ended with a tiny little device that took about 4 minutes to fit. Don't hesitate. It's a no-brainer. Smiler
Is the coil progesterone? I have found progesterone supplements (pessaries)(taken for other reasons) v.helpful with PMS which (though was always bad from teenage years) was WAY worse post-natally, the leaflet in the packs say they can be prescribed for this. Izodia
Be slightly careful of the internet though. My consultant advised me not to look too much as it's mostly the people who don't get on with it who post online. And he was right. Those of us who've got our lives back are far too busy having fun all month long!(P.S. Curlykaren, I'm happy to tell you more of my experience over PM if you still want to know more) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/11380-pms-hacked-off-with-it/#findComment-327298 Share on other sites
