I will be going past the Lidl where Mum picked mine up anyhow so really isn't that much trouble. Let's just keep our fingers crossed that they're still in stock! Besides, I'm hoping that creating all this good cycling karma will mean that one day I get all the lights on green on the way into work ;-)

I'm going up on Friday night and will probably nip in sometime on Saturday for them - but will check the thread for any new additions beforehand!

I bear bad news...

Neither branch of Lidl had any left; I even asked them to look out the back in case they'd just been removed from the shelves. One manager said that they'd sold out; the other that after 2 weeks on sale, all their promo stuff gets bundled back up and shipped back to their central warehouse. She also said that they might get them back in again since they often do lots of lights/reflective stuff when the clocks actually go back.

Sorry guys!

I hear talk of a law that only allows Unicycles to use the new Cycle Lanes.

All cycles to have a registration number, to trace those in accidents.

Only one wheel would reduce the area that the cycle uses.

This would reduce the speed of users.

All cyclist's to wear yellow reflective jackets.

It would also make the rider more aware of his own danger of getting hurt as to the pedestrian.

A cycle lift to be placed at Dog Kennel Hill on the up side, and a Skate board on the down side.

St John's Ambulance Staff to attend, and Trafic Warden to write a report of any incident.

  • 1 month later...

can anyone on here recommend the best brand/type of gloves for cycling in winter? thanks

my hands are freezing early in the morning in my little endura fingerless mitts - its especially bad when waiting at traffic lights as i just want to turn around and cycle home again. brrrrrrrrrrrr.

Kateie1997 - Sealskinz gloves are amazing! they do many different styles for many different uses. good price too. Just google them..

And if you haven't tried already, when it gets really cold.

Try some very fine silk liners (decathlon d some good one for under a fiver i seem to recall)

I hate cold fingers!

It's my toes that go first... Brrrrrr! I wanted to try mittens on the bike since I know they keep my fingers warmer when I'm out in snow but can't quite see how I'd change gear easily in them. Hmmm, perhaps 'flipper style' mittens with three 'compartments' so that the middle one can still reach the gear and the other one, the brake.

thanks for the cycling mittens advice everyone, very helpful to know some good brands from other cyclists. (tu)

PS. I never get cold toes so I recommend bridgedale socks (although I am sure these aren't designed specifically with cyclists in mind, more for hill-walking)

    • I’ve tried to find details of surgeries being held before but not found any. The section of the Southwark website that details councillors’ surgeries says that: Your locally elected Councillors will be holding a roving surgery programme in the Dulwich Hill area to enable residents to raise any local issues. Residents will be notified by letter in advance of the date, time and specific streets/roads where the surgery will take place.  Surgeries are not held in August, on Bank Holidays, Easter or in Christmas Week.  Dulwich Hill Ward Councillors I’ve never seen any notification of surgeries being held, including on the DH councillors’ social media accounts. I don’t know if any other residents of Dulwich Hill have? Neighbouring wards all seem to have times and places posted for surgeries.
    • I wouldn't feel too bad about that. It's one of the few degree areas that you can do a BA or a BSc in, so it's a fairly wide-ranging and complex subject. Certainly Truss, Kwasi and Reeves seem to struggle with it.
    • I can't access the article - what's the gist?  I took the markets getting jittery when she was crying at PMQs to be a sign that they trusted her. But maybe it was because they were simply worried about any form of instability.  The NIC hikes have stymied the economy, which we could all see a mile off. Will a wealth tax improve things? Does anyone here think the trickle down has any impact and that chasing out the super rich will help things? Or are we just seeing off the biggest contributors to the economy? And has the Kwasi approach ever worked anywhere else?  Economics is not my strong point at all, I'd love to know others' opinions, but it seems to be she has few options, especially as the party is so divided.
    • does either of them have a surgery? probably not over summer, but I thought they had to give the opportunity for their constituents to meet them.
