Thats the problem with us irish. . We all sound the same. .

i quite fancy popping along for one if only to meet some people who feel too shy to attend a bigger do

I dont think the gay drinks evening is exclusive as such. . Consider it a theme rather than an invite and the Idea of a ginger left handed evening doesnt sound so implausible

> the Idea of a ginger left handed

> evening doesnt sound so implausible

Drat - I am left handed but not ginger haired. How about left handed male dyslexic knitters? (I am all of those)

Seriously, when the idea of Gay Drinks was mentioned some time back I wondered why it was needed and felt it a bit exclusive. I agree with Sean's idea that it is a theme, I now feel happier with the idea of going though havent quite plucked up the nerve.

Well said Boosboss!

I am in a long-term relationship and intend to stay that way! But am interested to meet other gay & lesbian people as we often tend to have a lot in common, facing similar situations in life - just like any other minority group.

If you're not in a minority yourself, you wouldn't know. That's not meant to be rude, it's just the way it is.

My opinion for what it is worth is that we are all in a minority......of one. We arrive here on our own and we leave on our own. It's an individual path and sometimes I think that surrounding ourselves by 'like minded people' can disadvantage us if what we have in common allows us to forget that. However if that doesn't occur to you (not you personally James)then we can comfort ourselves in what the world has to offer without ever wondering why are we here or even is there an answer to that question.

I go away for three weeks and some lass called Louise is causing mayhem in the lounge about white stuff (I laughed so much I thought I was going to have an 'accident') and some guy called Declan is going on some philosophical speel about how we are all born alone in a gay drinks thread.

WTF?

Anyway - Rye drinks... I went. Mikese22 went and someone else (a recruitee from gaydar who hasn't even heard of the EDF (*shock*)) went. No other bu@@er turned up!

Should we aim for a Thursday evening instead? And maybe somwhere on LL?

I meant to - I really did. If only to catch up on Kilimanjaroan (sp?) tales but work overtook (and it is rare for me to miss any drinks to be fair)

Plus I think many forumites were recovering from the big forum session at The Plough on Friday

Was the Rye quiet - I was looking forward to going there as I hadn't been in for a while

Not a twin. My mother was there, as was a nurse.

Unless you want to get into a tedious descartian discussion on whether the mother and nurse were actually there, in which case I put up my hands and merrily say of course you can only know that you exist. That being the case, I will leave you to your self-debate whilst the rest of us (who may, or may not, exist - but strangely we are not too fussed about that) are down the pub having a (metaphysical or physical - again, we do not much care) pint.

What is strange is that that you think everyone thinks the same way as you do. The rest of you are down the pub having a pint leaving me to self-debate. I bet you have your own pint though unless of course there is comfort to be found in sharing one using straws!Either way I'll leave you too it. I much prefer wine.

    • Sorry Sue - me again. This has been on my mind all day, it's a big bug bear of mine. If you don't mind - please can you private message me some of these shops so I can cross reference / add to my AVOID list.  Thanks in advance. Let's make sure this doesn't happen this Christmas, particularly as we head into sales season. Even more problematic in my experience.
    • Pity you didn't quote what you are referring to, Mal. I didn't see the previous post, and my mind is boggling 😮
    • The Cherry Tree was absolutely excellent for a while when a youngish couple ran it and brought in a really good chef. It was them who renamed it The Cherry Tree. They were really turning it around. The chef did fantastic Scotch eggs, and one of the best roasts I've ever had. If memory serves the then owner,  for some reason known only to himself, took a dislike to them and what they were doing and sacked them all. And yes we weren't expecting a top class  meal last Christmas, and we left it too late to book anywhere else, but we weren't expecting it for a hundred pounds EACH to be quite as terrible as it was. Stupid us. Not sure why you are confused by my post, Jazzer? Did I misremember? Now it's got even more confusing because my posts have been merged and your confused emoji is shown at the bottom of the second one instead of the first 🤣
    • Hear hear. Very well said. Thank you and all the best for the year ahead
