LondonMix
Exactly-- I'm not sure how the co-op stay open. They are terrible. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/119246-ms/page/2/#findComment-1036755 Share on other sites
edcam
I find that Co-Op deeply depressing for some reason. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/119246-ms/page/2/#findComment-1036762 Share on other sites

Louisa
Even as a Somerfield that shop was useless. But since the Co-op took over, it's just become even worse. The Co-op in Lower Sydenham recently closed down and was turned into a Budgen's, I wonder if something similar will happen to this branch? Louisa. Bic Basher
I doubt the Co-op will sell. They recently sold a load of stores and LL isn't one of them. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/119246-ms/page/2/#findComment-1036868 Share on other sites

sela
Official M&S Twitter confirmed they will open a store end of this month and the Twitter account mentioned here isn't associated to M&S. KalamityKel
M&S don't "officially" take the site until the contract is signed at the end of the month. They could still potentially not take the site... Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/119246-ms/page/2/#findComment-1036938 Share on other sites
KoolBananas
It's like de ja vuIf you've been lucky enough to already have a guided tour of the place AND received a floor plan you will see that M&S Dulwich is just the same as every other M&S Food hall. I really don't understand why everyone is so excited (on both sides) for this addition to the area. For the shops that will suffer, and many will especially the independent ones, from their arrival it's a simple case of "I told you so" Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/119246-ms/page/2/#findComment-1036939 Share on other sites
kford
I don't know which shops will suffer, apart from the Co-op and maybe Sainsbury's; Rose's, Moxon's and Franklins etc have a loyal customer base who appreciate their quality. Maybe the wine shops, but there are no independent ready meal shops on LL. sela
Kalamity don't u think M&S is stupid and put so much work to find out at the end of the month they didn't get a lease?M&S is good thing. It'll prevent me from driving to Beckenham to do my shopping. I use the independent shops but not for everything. worldwiser
Also ED Deli went ages ago and M&S will be the only thing that vaguely offers (albeit quite inferior) anything approaching what they used to do. Independents have little to worry about and may even see increased custom as more people drawn in. firekat2
Cant wait for M&S to open, and bye bye co-op not only depressing but the queues are horrendous and many the time I have just left the basket and walked out, its a joke. aerie
the Coop is the pits, as is well documented by me here : so many items unpriced, milk sours quickly, dilatory staff and service, understocked, first time for weeks they have had regular humous, despite snide remarks, this is an important component of ED life but no one there cares. The shop is dismal and depressing and mega expensive. The queues are infamous. And for those of you who do not check labels, buying fish or meals containing chicken, check the origin. What we really really need, is a Cook, nearest West Dulwich, lamb tagline, rice, dessert, yum. I cannot get excited about M&Sits so beige. They do not even have a non dairy/vegan option in sandwiches or ready meals, so way behind the zeitgeist, if we cannot have meat, dairy, wheat or eggs, then ready meal store providing what is required (market research anyone) would be welcome, as it is, nothing has changed or evolved or improved for years. sela
What I learnt from this thread that people in ED don't like to cook and prefer to buy ready meals :-) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/119246-ms/page/2/#findComment-1037224 Share on other sites
aerie
sela you don't want to believe everything you see in print. We love good food, cooking, entertaining, eating out, and occasionally, fish and chips/curry/Thai takeaway, we want the options, we all work hard and need nutrition, we enjoy the eating/dining experience, you will note that there is no KFC or Wimpy or McDonalds along this stretch of highway or ever likely to be. Louisa
Lordship Lane had a Starburger and a Wimpy back in the day. It also has a chicken favourite (same as KFC pretty much).Louisa. Abe_froeman
Kebab and wine also do takeaway burgers as do GBK so it's not that far off having McDonald's / wimpy style restaurants. There is an M&S Food Hall sign up on the outside now next to the show shop, so I no longer think they are trying to keep this quiet for a surprise opening. Jeremy
I'm always confused at the judgemental attitude some people have towards ready meals and convenience food. Not good to eat them all the time, but very useful for those nights you get home from work late, or kids have been playing up, etc. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/119246-ms/page/2/#findComment-1037318 Share on other sites
Zebedee Tring
It's quite simple. If you don't like M&S, then exercise your right not to go there. If you do like them, then go there. Why all the endless debate? If we all liked the same things, life would be boring. Bic Basher
Iceland were around for years (previously as Bejam) who sold convenience ready meals which were heavily processed.
