new craft shop

does anyone know anything about the new craft shop which looks to be opening in Lordship Lane opposite Cafe Nero?

Far from wanting to wish any new business anything other than good fortune, it's a real shame a deli of some kind couldn't have tried to make a go of it after the sorely missed predecessor.

Lots of places to buy deli type food in Lordship Lane, but there is nowhere to buy any sewing kit, [ the fabric shop down towards the Library only sells ribbon, not cotton etc.] this new shop really should be a useful addition to Lordship Lane shops.

I really hope they can make a go of it. I expect the rent for that site is pretty high these days and there's not much [ET correct predictive sp] profit in craft materials. It would be great if they also do workshops as no doubt there are a lot of people who'd be interested.

That "sorely missed" deli scored very low in the hygiene ratings. I seem to remember only "1".

The Deli was awful...overpriced produce with truly awful service.

they made me feel they were doing me a favour bothering to serve me.

Went twice..that was enough.

Theres loads of good deli style places in and near Lordship Lane.

I welcome this shop.

Good luck to this new craft shop. I don't miss the deli place one bit, it was the catalyst for the areas change, replacing a much loved second hand shop, which incidentally I still miss. At least this new place will be useable. We need a high street which offers retail diversity and I welcome this addition.

a decent range of acrylics in ED would save a journey to Camberwell or Atlantic in Brick Lane.

NewWave - I went in twice also, as the first time I thought I was mistaken, they could not possibly be so ignorant? ventured in again looking for Italian cake and Serrano ham and other goodies : we walked in and greeted the behind counter staff - no response - went through to the adjoining section - felt so uncomfortable we left. And certainly do not miss it.

A craft shop, especially if they run courses will do well, as Louisa points out, we need retail diversity, and it seems as though we are going to get it!

Well .. when it comes to The E.D. Deli.. Mr. Fox, you know the miserable (old) git.. most negative poster here on EDF

has to say that on the few times I used this place they could NOT of been more helpful.

I was looking for Low G.I. bread and was treated to an in depth chat about their breads and what might be the best for my needs.

I had other similar experiances at other times but cannot recal them specifically.

Perhaps other people felt 'neglected' while I held their attention.

When you talk to people.. and take an interest in what they are doing, they treat you with respect..

I wish the new Shop all the very best.. I think they too will be a valuable addition to L.L.

I quite liked ED deli. The service did seem slightly abrupt at times... always just assumed it was because they were rushed in there. But anyway, we have other deli places including Cheese Block, General Store (Peckham), "Organic Village", and even M&S might have a reasonable selection of bits of pieces. So I think we'll survive. Hope the new place does well.

The ED Deli was a real oasis back in 2002, I remember. Their brownies are sadly missed, though I agree the service was a bit chilly in recent years (thought it was just me so good to know others felt the same). Several times I walked out in sheer irritation at being ignored for ages. SMBS seems to be going the same way.

Always interesting to hear who actually uses which shops. I've never understood how the Coop keeps going but someone must like it.

Back on topic, I'd like it if the craft shop did some crochet workshops.

I can't say 'craft shop' fills me with tremendous excitement, but anything that isn't an estate agent or identikit curry house is good news. Hopefully it will return The Spirit Of Ralon back to LL - with CCTV, tripwires and a machine gun nest guarding the Staedtler pen carousel.

Lidl do a low GI multigrain loaf which is delicious and sells quickly.

I doubt you will have as much attention as in the ED deli

A craft shop is restoring independents to our high street,

Its one chain replacing another chain (I assume you mean M&S). Nothing has changed except M&S is slightly more upmarket. But let's not exaggerate: Eltham and Brixton both have M&S's as o many other locations in South London. I don't think its nearly as upmarket as some people seem to suggest.
