I have never seen this film on TV, and thought it should have been by now- does any one know any reason why it is never on tv?( I mean free tv not sky etc?)I wondered if it is banned?- I remember it as being very powerful and one of the films everyone should see.

wod - (I have a copy of it on Video) but I have searched lots and cannot find mention of it being banned - I don't know why it has not been shown much but I am sure I watched it a year or so ago on TV (Maybe the Beeb?) with my sons - I made a point of asking them if they would like to watch "My favourite movie of all time" with me, and they did (to mixed opinions)

I know it has not been shown a lot - why, I don't know, but possibly due to the stigma of Mental Institutions (this movie came out in 1975 and electric shock treatment etc was then the norm, I think)

I agree, everyone should watch it (mostly because Jack Nicholson was at his very best in this one :D) and also though some serious and sad scenes are prevalent, there are also some scenes that make you laugh so hard and smile a lot :)

This REALLY should be shown more!

One of the best films ever made. Yes , contoversial but very real. My mother who worked in mental health made very poignant remarks to us at the time. From my recollection it wasn't so much ECT treatment which certainly continued for many years since but the ' frontal lobotomy ' that Jack Nicholson's character underwent.

I would happily watch that film with my teenagers and discuss the issues inherant in the film.

Jack Nicholson at his best and many others alonside him in that film.

Like Amadeus, it's one of those gong-bagging films where the distributors have managed to limit how often it's shown in order to preserve cachet (and protect DVD re-releases).

But it's more of a melodrama with a touch of panto rather than some kind of hard-hitting documentorial expos? of mental institutions of the time. It pretends to be a bit more serious than it is. ECT etc was controversial but I don't think there was anything controversial about the film itself.

Great flick though.

One of my all time favourite films. I'm sure it has been on telly........but can't think when. Its such a sad film, especially at the end when Jack Nicholson's character is in bed (unlike my new cosy new sofa bed http://www.fashion4home.co.uk/sofa-beds )..........

Does Jack Nicholson do anything apart from play.. Jack Nicholson?

Anyway, he played Jack Nicholson really well in Cuckoo's Nest. It's right up there with him portrayal of Jack Nicholson in The Shining and a world away from the slightly dopey, boss-eyed version of Jack Nicholson he played in Prizzi's Honour.

He now has a nice line in grumpy old man roles See: As Good as It Gets or About Schimdt.

Cruise redeems himself with Born on the 4th of July.

Connery (Bond aside) is a joke....I can never decide which of his accents is worse - Irish in the The Untouchables or the Scottish/Egyptian/Spanish one in Highlander. Then again, he was opposite a French-Canadian whol barely spoke English playing a Scot too so you can hardly blame him. The casting director for Highlander deserves a medal.

Edit: Have just looked them up on IMDB and neither worked on a big film again. Justice.

The film was brilliant, but the book was stunning, nurse Ratchet was supposed to represent control by "Authority" and the big Indian by smothering him at the end prevented "Them" winning and taking his freedom of mind.Cant recommend the book highly enough.

    • Nasty piece of work. Targets locations with a healthy independent presence and farmers’ markets; typical vampire capitalism. Great supporter of a Brexit too. All good reasons to go elsewhere, preferably small independent.,
    • Hi, oglander , Congratulations on your soon-to-arrive little lion - how exciting! It's always lovely to hear someone taking the adoption route (shelters are having a major crisis at the moment!). I've been in business for 15 years & can say with certainty that most cat owners in Dulwich have catflaps so, not only are they easy to have installed, but you shouldn't find yourself short of helping hands on these local forums. A catflap is a brilliant way to keep your little lion safely in overnight as well as generally keeping track of their comings & goings. I'd be happy to walk you through the set up once you've chosen your model (SureFlap & PetSafe are two popular brands). I'm sure the rescue has already advised, but just in case they haven't, it'll be very important to keep your newly adopted cat housebound for the first 2 weeks to familiarise themselves with their new home. Once they've scent-mapped the house, you can gradually begin letting them out to explore & scent-map the garden. Exciting times! x
    • Hello all,  If your child goes to this gym club: since the new payment system, have you received clear information about the cost per session, the cost per term and when sessions will be omitted eg for school opened days? (I have asked the club, more than once, no full response so far) This term started in late August, before school had gone back (did many attend that session?). Next term there is no break for half term, so there are 12 sessions to be paid. Does that seem to be more sessions than there used to be?    I am sure they are doing their best, but the info from the new auto pay system isn’t detailed enough, and the auto pay just takes an unspecified amount. I wondered if it’s just me (wanting more detail), or if there are others too? (my child loves the gym itself!) thanks
    • ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Excellent service! We had one of Paul Edgley’ s team come to fit some new lights in our living room. They were able to come at reasonably short notice, arrived on time, were friendly and professional, and did a great job. Everything was left clean and tidy afterwards, and the lights look fantastic. Highly recommend! Paul’s contact details are 07802 627967
