Err...considering your opening salvo...why?

Find yourself a nice pub around midday and drink a healthy gallon of Bitter & Twisted. Repeat dose daily. That should get you through. Just don't hit any Hoorays on your way back to the hotel.

Reversing a trend..........shure you boys had employment there for centuries keeping the local rabble down.

I'll see you down there Quidsy. For I'm going fly fishing and for that the west country is superb.....and if you know where to go, not a hooray or Jamie Oliver diffusion in sight. Just me, a burbling river, the wildlife and hopefully a nice meal and a birthday pint with at the Arundell Arms after....:)-D

Aaahh - the Arundell Arms.I used to live within 3 miles of there, and enjoy a spot of fly fishing too. Now full of envy.

Some other positives for the West - North Devon - scruffy, agricultural, beautiful walks and seasides. A few really good restaurants, builders that not only turn up but also clean up after they finish work, my first married home, the birth of my two sons, one day I'll return on the proceeds of selling off in ED.

So Quids, if you are complaining about the 'West', what's the Emerald Isle......the Wild West?

I found some pure uadulterated (unpolished) beautiful pieces of real amethyst on a beach in Cornwall.

There are fabulous tin mines (yes, really) Clotted cream teas. Pirates and shipwrecks. Famous Five country. Rolling hills. Sea.

Stay away from Padstein and you'll be fine (tu)

    • There’s a couple of Gov petitions going on in relation to fireworks at the moment but this one is for banning them entirely except organised displays if anyone wants to sign. This is the only sensible way forward in my view. No one should be able to let them off in gardens or anywhere like that, it’s crazy. I am surprised some of you have said it hasn’t been as bad this year. I live near DKH Saino and it’s been absolutely terrible my way for days. This petition gained about 20,000 just in the last day or so so clearly the appetite is there! https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/732559
    • I'd have thought they could use some of  their income from hiring out a large part of Brockwell Park in the summer (therefore, as I understand it, preventing local residents from using much of it) to put on a firework display there  in the autumn which might somewhat make up to those residents for the previous loss of use of the park. And also generate goodwill.

Care to share with the rest of us where  your particular interest in libraries comes from? Do you work in one of them?
