I've an aversion to certain job titles. My number one is the 'MANAGER' thing.

Sales Manager, Line Manager, Account Manager and the rest, all irritate the s*@*t out of me. But i've come to a point where our team has grown to such an extent, that I'm employing these people.

So what to call them, as there's some equally irritating 'alternatives' in the market place. And I'm also aware that titles give some people a weird power trip.

So far we have the following: Distribution Team , which encompasses the warehouse and the driver. We have Bookers, Account Handling. But the middle *ahem* management is where i'm struggling. What do you call someone who makes sure the clients are all cosy, cared for, and such likes. Or new business bods , what are they to be called?

So help please, share your titles, likes and dislikes.

Some people like the word "manager" in their job title though. Makes them feel important.

In my industry, middle-tier people tend to be labelled "Vice President". In reality it's a meaningless title, automatically given out if you've been around for 10 years or so, and have a pulse. But my mum is ever so proud.

Exactly ???'s

It's a minefeild or should I just get over myself

I think deep down i'm realising that somethings just are as they are

Gawd

It's not just the employees whose egos you can massage. (Self-) Important clients appreciate being assigned a Strategic Client Relationship Director. People with that on their business card often have a separate 'internal' job title, like 'client partner'.

Manager. Executive. Associate. Partner. All generic words with no particular consistent meaning to worry about.

Officer. Clerk. Assistant. All dying descriptors.

Go for manager as long as they're actually in charge of anyone else. It's arguably the least offensive label.

Jeremy, does that mean you work in banking or some related part of financial services? VP = senior manager, but in reality no one senior speaks to you until you make Director.

Cheese importer - sorry, couldn't resist!

Chief Entertainment Officer is a difficult one to beat for titular banter.

Browsing the 25 actual CEOs on Linked in my favourite is Dan Beers, Chief Entertainment Officer of DBEERS ENTERTAINMENT LLC.

That they carry out trucking and transportation business is the icing on the cake.

    • Helen and Steve did an incredible job transforming our garden (erecting a new fence, building decking, laying a new lawn and planting). Helen is very thoughtful and helped to prepare a detailed plan ahead of the work starting aligned to what we wanted and within our budget. The team worked quickly and efficiently and were incredibly polite and professional throughout. Everything was carried out to such a high standard and I couldn’t be happier with the result - we have got so much enjoyment from the garden since then. Highly recommend!
    • Silly question, but have you reported this elsewhere as well as on here? Eg passport office, banks (if there are bank cards), police? Because if someone is carrying around their passport (assuming it's theirs) they must be pretty devastated if they have lost it, and it's fairly unlikely they will see this post, though fingers crossed.
    • * Big, sick & tired sigh * Ok, so here is this year's small selection of Gala litter that has been left behind. I have to emphasise, it is only a small part of what is still there, collected on Tuesday from a relatively small area in the south of the ex-site. I also have to emphasise this only took about an hour of slow wandering, using only my eyes & hands - no specialist equipment, and I'm not a paid employee of a specialist waste management company. And to confirm, this is after "The site was checked at the end of GALA’s tenancy and found to be clear of event-related litter" by the Council / Parks Dept. There's 488 items there, many of which would be potentially hazardous to children, pets & wildlife. Not least the small bag in the bottom left corner, still containing a suspicious white substance. I'm hoping to pass this on to the police for testing, ensuring it is recorded for the purposes of next year's licence consideration.  Please - before anyone posts any comments defending this, denying it is festival related, insulting me, whatever - just go and have a close look yourself, particularly where the tents, stages & toilets were sited. It's obviously from the festival, and there's still loads of it there, all over our park. It is literally being trashed, year after year, despite repeated assurances from the organisers.  I'm sick of it, it's just so depressing.
    • Ah, ok. I only glanced at it,  and obviously didn't properly read even the tiny bit I glanced at 🤣 Sorry!
