Sean and Keef, did either of you ever see Lonesome Dove?

Really, really good cowboy drama shown over a few episodes. I'm not particularly into wild westy type stuff as such, but this was so well put together and well acted (Tommy Lee Jones, Robert Duvall, Chris Cooper, Anjelica Huston..). I really recommend it if you haven't, they show it every so often on TV.

you will be a busy boy Keef

we watched the penultimate episode last night - contender for best episode ever. And now all that remains is the 2 hour finale tonight

I'm devestated - not about a programme finishing - but by the lessons learnt from the whole thing. It's amazing how so many of the debates that have happend on this forum have echoes in the show and how the answers are clarly nowhere near as simplistic as those espoused.

4 is wicked! Wasn't sure where it would go after 3, but it may well be my favourite series. Can't bring myself to do the whole sopranos thing again, love it, but there's just too much of it! We've been rewatching I Claudius, which is hilarious having watched Rome quite recently. By happy coincidence though, it does basically take up the tale right where Rome leaves it.

The Wire is a pretty big commitment of time, but Spaced is just 2 short series and is an absolute must see, packed full of cultural references (mostly zombie films and star wars to be fair) and some great great comedy quotes.

It's by the Sean of the Dead / Hot Fuzz people.

Mrs *Bob* is the one who (after much arm-twisting) agrees to watch I film I love (which she's never seen) and then about twenty minutes in says "oh.. I have seen this one".

I fear that trying to schedule-in several series of 'The Wire' might be the end of us.

We have Spaced on DVD somewhere (lazy Christmas present from someone or other) so will no doubt try tick that box when we get around to it etc

    • Kwik Fit buggered up an A/C leak diagnosis for me (saying there wasn't one, when there was) and sold a regas. The vehicle had to be taken to an A/C specialist for condensor replacement and a further regas. Not impressed.
    • Yes, these are all good points. I agree with you, that division has led us down dangerous paths in the past. And I deplore any kind of racism (as I think you probably know).  But I feel that a lot of the current wave of xenophobia we're witnessing is actually more about a general malaise and discontent. I know non-white people around here who are surprisingly vocal about immigrants - legal or otherwise. I think this feeling transcends skin colour for a lot of people and isn't as simple as, say, the Jew hatred of the 1930s or the Irish and Black racism that we saw laterally. I think people feel ignored and looked down upon.  What you don't realise, Sephiroth, is that I actually agree with a lot of what you're saying. I just think that looking down on people because of their voting history and opinions is self-defeating. And that's where Labour's getting it wrong and Reform is reaping the rewards.
    • @Sephiroth you made some interesting points on the economy, on the Lammy thread. Thought it worth broadening the discussion. Reeves (irrespective of her financial competence) clearly was too downbeat on things when Labour came into power. But could there have been more honesty on the liklihood of taxes going up (which they have done, and will do in any case due to the freezing of personal allowances).  It may have been a silly commitment not to do this, but were you damned if you do and damned if you don't?
    • I'd quit this thread, let those who just want to slag Labour off have their own thread.  Your views on the economy are worth debating.  I'm just stunned how there wasn't this level of noise with the last government.  I could try to get some dirt on Badenoch but she is pointless  Whilst I am not a fan of the Daily Mirror at least there is some respite from Labour bashing. https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/grenfell-hillsborough-families-make-powerful-36175862 https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/nigel-farage-facing-parliamentary-investigation-36188612
