Good to see people still giving this love

Series 2 is a gear change from 1 - esp if you have given it a rest in between. Sobotka family are just great characters though.

At a book club session on Monday however, just the mention of the show had some people get quite antsy - not that they have ever seen it. And I know why people react against other people banging on about something - but to miss something this good because of that..... oy vey

has been right at the top of my "must have NOW" list with lovefilm.com forever

Giggirl I was having a similar problem with a box set I wanted (Deadwood I think), so I created a second lst with only that on it, and set it so they had to send me 2 disks from that list and one from my original list. 2 days later Deadwood landed on the doormat. Worth trying if you have the problem again.

Series 3 & 4 were faves for me.

More I think about it, the more I think 5 was a bit shite really. They let themselves down after creating some geat characters in series 4, 2 of whom just got one cameo scene!

Thanks for the tip Keef. That's worth knowing. I'm thinking of cancelling my membership to be honest. I struggle to find films to put on my list and then when they come I struggle to find the time to watch. For months now I've had The Wire set to number one priority and had everything else on my list set to low priority. What's the point of prioritising discs if they're going to ignore your choices? Great tip though.

I tucked into David Simon's Generation Kill yesterday.

Again it's well written and rooted in an honest rather than a dramatic portrayal, based on the experience of an embedded journalist during the initial invasion it follows a company's experiences, the good, the bad the tragic(omic) and the incompetent.

Also like the wire it's immersed in the language and culture of it's subject, so I warn against watching four episodes in a row, you will have weird dreams almost entirely in tla's and abbreviations like sit rep.

But I do recommend it.

Always Tom Waits, the other versions pale badly in comparison. Maybe its a lot to do with the version you first heard. I do like Tom Waits a lot though so am probably biased. As for your quote being a spoiler I dont think so, its not like you gave away a serious plot twist...methinks SBs being overy precious. Hides under table to avoid the teacup SBs just let fly at my head.

I'm more worried about how I became SB??

And it was a big plot moment for be!

Tom Wait's version for me - sometimes covers surpass the original but not in this case (although I love Steve Earle's version for Series 5)

Cheers for the (now retroactive!) heads-up Piers - where are you watching it btw? DVD or FX?

How about (yet another) wire thread for discussing the many many issues raised in the wire, with clear indication in the title that it's full of spoilers.

GK is much less prone to spoilers, there are no plot twists and almost no dramatic tension.

Like the old adage about war goes, it's weeks of boredom followed by minutes of terror.

It's not quite that, but most screen time is devoted to soldiers being bored, soldiers griping about their superiors being petty and incompetent, and superiors being petty and incompetent.

And DVD (of sorts) SB. I feel no guilt because I'll buy it as soon as it is available. to nestle alongside Band of Brothers with whom it shares many similarities.

It's already discussed characters that die, and series 5, so I'd keep resisting if I were you.

Be strong Moos, if you need a sponsor to help you stay off it, I'm here to talk.

How are you getting on with it by the way? My series 5 if just going from one friend to another, then you are next on the list.

I still haven't got over a traumatic event in series 1, so goodness knows what horror awaits.

Really liking series 3 - slower and more tightly plotted than series 2 so far, but lots of good storylines warming up nicely.

Thank you for your support, Keef - I'm just taking this one day at a time.

*Hi everyone - my name is Moos and I'm a Wireholic. It's been 2 months since I read my last spoiler*

    • @CPR Dave He needs to communicate collectively with all of the beneficiaries.  That is the whole point of my original post.  Electronic communications are the best way of doing this, as I am doing now on this forum.  Apart from the gold digger who will get a six figure sum the rest of us are on four figures, and that is going down by the day. I'm offended by any suggestion that we are not behaving well.  What on earth do you mean?
    • Surprise, surprise. It didn't take them long, did it. This will be something of a test as to how much the council really care about parks and the environment. A footfall of 60,000. Are they mad? There is no way this park is designed for or can sustain that sort of use. Just had a look at the schedule. If allowed to go ahead, this will involve a large slice of the park (not the common) sectioned off and out of use for three weeks of May and the first week of June. Here's an idea, why not trial the festival in one of the other Southwark Parks, so the 'goodness' can be shared around the borough?
    • There was another unprovoked attack on Monday this week on a young woman nearby (Anstey Road) at 6.45pm. Don't have any other details, it was posted on a Facebook group by her flatmate. Pretty worrying  https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1EGfDrCAST/
    • OMFG is it possible for the council to do anything without a bunch of armchair experts moaning about it? The library refurb is great news, as it's lovely but completely shagged out - the toilets don't even work reliably. Other libraries in the area will be open longer house during the closure. July is a rubbish time to begin a refurb because it's just before the entire construction sector goes on summer holiday, and it would mean delaying the work another 8 months.
