Next Forum Drinks - Friday 1st October at The Actress

Recommended Posts

I'll second that, Jah.

Georgia, I think you've done a great job of organising over the years (as someone who hates organising social things I can't imagine how you've had the patience and energy!) and the drinks have allowed lots of people to meet and make friends locally. If they're getting less popular now, maybe that's just a reflection of how sucessful they, and the forum, have been, as all those friendships formed are now strong enough to go on without a monthly scheduled meet-up.

It took me months to feel brave enough to go to my first drinks, but I have never regretted going and have had some very enjoyable evenings and made some great friends.

Thank you.

Everyone has said it well, but Jah in particular expressed it for me. I don't go to the drinks any more, but in the time when I used to go it was always a lot of fun and a great crowd. Thank you so much, Georgia, for organising so mnay drinks so smoothly and pulling together an online community into a real one.

Superstar.

ah i feel really very sad that the drinks have come to an end.

We moved to the area 2 years ago...and the forum was a wonderful resource for the community

But discovering the drinks was a great way for me and Franster to meet new people especially as we didnt know anyone in this area.

Since my first drinks at the old pub in Nunhead...ive met loads of nice friendly people inc Sean, Sue, Citizen Ed,

Andrew, David Carnell, Georgia, Raj, Mick Mac, Mockney Piers...etc

and not forgetting my very good neighbour and football buddies LadyMuck and DJQKillaQueen!!!

Well Georgia thanks for all your hard work and effort in organizing the drinks.

Ye Olde Nuns Head was in Nunhead should be still there.

Thanks Georgia for organising the drinks, i would just like to repeat what everyone else has said above. I know i have said this before but there are newbies out there that no doubt cannot recognize peeps in a busy bar, what about those guys though who wish to meet up with everybody?

ah i feel really very sad that the drinks have come to an end.

They don't have to. If there are a bunch of people that still want them, then just carry on doing it. I don't think Georgia would be offended if someone took over, but she has served her time, and deserves to step back.

I too have met lots of great people through the drinks, a couple of whom are counted as very close friends.

Circumstances change however, and I only had so much time available to me these days, especially after becoming a parent, so the forum drinks had to take a back seat.

There were some classics though, The Pheonix springs to mind as a top one (probably late 2008 / early 2009), as well as some of the very early ones.

It was a pretty organic process to begin with then became more formalised and poor Georgia got badgered or lumbered with the organisation of it, so hats off to you Georgia for sticking with it for so long.

But, much like most of the forum, it can be what the people in the community want to make of it, so perhaps its time for a new generation to do what they want to do and put their stamp on it.

There were some top nights though, I'd go with Phoenix as the high water mark too.

It seems like a looong time ago when I met georgia at my first drinks. As everyone says, basically ?we are not worthy?

As Piers noted, it was the growing popularity of monthly drinks which necessitated some organisation ? and if memory serves Mike Paeleantologist was earmarked as joint organiser ? but without complaint georgia has month after month arranged and attended each drink and fair play to her

I thought the Actress was always going to be a tough gig ? some pubs on a Friday night (see also Liqourice, EDT, Bishop) are just too busy to accommodate a changing bunch of hardened regulars and some anxious first-timers. If a first-timer ventures along to the Clockhouse or CPT it sort of becomes apparent who the forum drinks gang might be. It?s just not the same in one of the megabusy weekend bars.

My favourite nights were

My first drinks (CPT)

The Phoenix

First time at Hoopers

The joint Castle/CPT drinks

Gowlett

Maybe we should organise one last hurrah drinks for georgia as a big thank you ? anyone who has ever benefited from the drinks should come along or donate to a bar fund

I haven't been in a while but am hugely grateful to Georgia for all the work she has done. I had some terrific nights and made some wonderful friends (and met a partner too). I agree that it is perhaps evidence of the success of the nights that people now meet up and no longer feel the need to go along to a specific night.

I agree that Sean's idea is a good one. Here's to one last hoorah!

My favourite drinks were my first ever 2 years ago...at the pub in Nunhead...god I cant remember the name now!

But they served lovely bar snacks and the barmaids were very friendly and welcoming to us all!

I'd also like to buy you a drink Georgia, I had stopped coming to the forum drinks but would come once more for old time's sake :) and I did really appreciate the effort you put into organising them.

Provided it doesn't clash with a Goose gig, which are also on Fridays.

ETA: Though I realise that probably won't be the top priority of whoever organises this last forum drinks!

    • Gosh, that all sounds so familiar!  Southwark are constantly holding up their Outdoor Events Policy as proof of process, but then constantly allow exceptions when things aren't quite done correctly. Point in case, Gala's licence application - extract from the Consultation Findings Report - "The GALA team formally submitted their application to hold GALA 2025 to the council on the 7 October 2024. It is usually a requirement that applications for larger scale events are submitted with a minimum of 9 months to process them, but discretion can be applied if there are mitigating circumstances. 8.4 of the Outdoor Events Policy clarifies that processing applications received outside the stated lead-in times is at the Council's discretion. In this case: • The council were aware that Assembled Gala were preparing an application for the event to take place in 2025 in advance of their submission date, with operational discussions already taking place • GALA festival has been taking place in Peckham Rye Park since 2018 – less time is needed regarding event planning than if it were a new event • The GALA team already have a Premises Licence in place for this event (this is a pre- requisite for the Event Licence to be issued), so no time needed to be factored in for a premises licence application and decision-making process"

    • Sue, if you put on a Dog mask, I'm.sure Bob will say "nice bit of wensleydale Grommit?" to you at the drinks
    • What, a Brie tasting?  I'd rather have an animal mask than have to eat Brie 🤮
