Whilst I agree with all the sentiment etc I still wonder why we don't get similar threads or columnists in the Guardian about other 'great religions' that in reality encourage homophobia, massive sexual discrimination...actually Femicide let's be blunt....or is that just left to mad southern Preachers?

He's an easy target, all bigotry should be exposed.

Some of my catholic friends suffer from 1st degree guilt some of the others who are less driven have only

achieved "A" level guilt.

The denial of justice to the victims is one of the greatest debacles of this institution,

as it casts a shadow over any good deeds it performs in the world.

I still think that suggesting he opens an abortion clinic is hardly the correct activity for the pope to perform as there must be loads of 'befitting' chores which would be more suitable.

I think ignoring him would be the worst thing we can do.

Just as we should not ignore any group / cult / religion / whose remit is to order other people around and make them do things that are dangerous / immoral / illegal / unfair / discriminatory / etc etc.

I think it is a scandal that it is a state visit, ie. your taxes are paying for his visit. (I earned so little last year I don't get to pay taxes this year, so its your taxes!)

Anyone remember an episode of "Old Harry's Game", written by and starring Andy Hamilton where upon being asked "What shall I do with this new batch of sinners Oh Satan?"

Satan: "Put them in the pit with the pregnant Popes"

New arrival in Hell: "Pregnant Popes?"

Satan: "Yeah. Up to their knecks in excrement while suffering agonising birth pains for all eternaty."

Something along those lines anyway.

Have I offended some catholics?

Tough.

The Pope though is not every catholic...he IS however Catholicism and that makes him different to other religions that do not have a single living figurehead at the helm. My objection is to him personally, because he is the worst kind of Catholic. I would say the same of the worst kind of Jews, Muslims, and Christians and anyone that condones oppression and hatred. Those kinds of people are simply fascists who then use religion to justify their fascism.

    • Hi fellow forum-ers,  I am in need of getting out of a (mutually) toxic relationship with my husband, but cannot afford to buy or rent anything half decent in the area. I would like for the children not having to change schools and friendship group, their training club etc to maintain some level of stability through the storm. I am looking for a house share with someone in the same position as me who is willing to share rent/bills/chores and... life! Or, maybe, a not so young person who needs help with cleaning, washing, shopping and cooking and has a couple of bedrooms to spare and can do with some extra cash. My children are 17, 14 and 10 well behaved and used to be respectful around people's houses (we're seasoned home exchangers). The eldest is in a fishing school (don't ask) outside London and only comes home for the weekend. The other 2 are into sports, so often training or in competitions during the week/weekend.  If you are interested or know someone who is, please DM me. I know it's a long shot, but I hope somewhere out there someone is able to help us. Also, if you're being through this and can offer advice, that is also welcomed. In case you're wondering, my husband is disabled and won't leave the house (and it seems unfair that we ask him to).
    • Hi, My automatic nissan juke, much to my shock, having only done 50,000 miles needs a new gear box. Trying to decide to replace gear box or buy a second hand car - always thought Japanese cars were reliable and guess I have just been unlucky. Any advice greatly received - to buy a second hand car or replace gear box. If buying second hand would one suggest dealership or private garage ?? Thank you.
