Keef
Thought I'd start a thread about live music, for people to either tell us about gigs they're going to, have been to, or want to go to. Also, people could let us know if they hear of any upcoming shows that shouldn't be missed (I'm not really talking local events here by the way).Having seen them at Reading, I am well chuffed that a work colleague has just offered me a spare ticket to see The Gossip on the 13th! I shall report back, am expecting a good gig, she's got a fab voice! Also The Pogues are doing their regular xmas gigs at The Brixton Academy. Tickets yet to go on sale, but they do 3 nights, so you can usually get them. I've been twice in the last 3 years, and intend to go this year. Even if you're not a massive fan (I wouldn't call myself a huge fan, but like a fair few songs), it's a really fun night, and I really do find it gets me in the Christmas spirit >:D<Anyway, I love going to gigs, so post on here if there's something I should be seeing! Fear 'n boozin
were friggin awesome, I'll be seeing them again. And buying the albums.....The kings of Leon were good too. But um, you know all this....The Red Hot Chili Peppers sucked. Boo hiss to Kiedis. Jah Lush
Good call Keef, was thinking of doing something like this myself but you've beaten me to it. I first saw the Pogues supporting Elvis Costello at the old Hammersmith Palais in '82 or '83 and they completely tore the place apart. Elvis was so boring compared to them. Saw them again at one of those Xmas gigs at Brixton Academy that you're talking about in the early 90s and it was like one massive party, brilliant atmosphere and full of people in Celtic shirts. Great gig and everyone pissed as puddings. Marvellous!:)) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1326-great-gigs/#findComment-35784 Share on other sites
Keef
Agree with Fear RE Arcade Fire and Kings of Leon... And Chilis come to that.Jah, if you fancy the Pogues this year we'll get a gang together, I'm well up for it, the whole academy is like a massive Irish pub for the night! :)-D Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1326-great-gigs/#findComment-35785 Share on other sites
Keef
By the way Fear, what's the name of that band who do the purple song? They were fun, and I saw them again on Reading highlights, wouldn't miond catching them! Also Eagles of death metal were cool... Not death metal as the name would suggest. Annasfield
Does anyone else go the Canterbury Arms before heading over the Academy? It's a proper pub and a must before gigs! mockney piers
There are some great gigs coming up in november at the Camden Roundhouse, which is also an attractive venue as you don't have to battle for hours against thousands of 19 year old 'emo' kids for an overpriced pint of weak lager, unlike many venues I could mention.Sonic Youth the next couple of nights, Richard Hawley, stranglers, super furries coming up (beastie boys sold out), but ones I'll be going to are:Ojos de Brujo and Beirutanyone up for one, t'other or both? Asset
I wonder if Jules is playing with them?I can't remember which band it was but I heard a band stipulated an appearance on his Late Night show ONLY providing he did not accompany them on piano. ha ha. Jah Lush
Yeah! Squeeze have got a great set list Keef and MW74 but it's at Hammersmith Apollo, f**king awful place. Annasfield
I like the Forum and also Koko. Brixton is very convenient for us East Dulwichites!Must agree - not that keen on the apollo, however I had no choice as I really wanted to see them. It gets worse though! I'm taking my Mum :(, however its only fair as I only got in to Squeeze as my folks always used to listen to their stuff. Have one spare ticket at the moment. James
Arcade Fire were mindblowing at Latitude. I had a near-religious experience with everyone singing along and fireworks at the end... amazing.Seeing Interpol later in the year. They are always brilliant live, although new album is taking a while to get into. A mate of mine went last year and said they still cut the mustard and of course you have to get into the spirit of things. Nudge nudge, wink wink! SeanMacGabhann
Saw arcade fire at bristol academy and sheffield lead mill on their first tour a couple of years back. Really glad they are playing the festivals and converting more and more.i would echo mockney s comments on the round house as well. Great venue. Bush hall also good. Spit z was good but is closing slash moving.i was hoping to see hammel on trial in camden but sold out. Apollo has crap sound, and hate Shep Bush Empire cos it was the first place where I couldn't smoke!!!Anna when is Squeeze? Might just be interested in that ticket....Jah, I'll discuss Pogues with you over a beer soon. Xmas 2004, Shane not bad singing, but couldn't understand a word he said between songs, and he had to go off every 3 songs or so for a drink break. 2005 Different man, seemed to have pulled himself together a lot, and gave a great performance! I'm told he was good last year, but I was in Oz. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1326-great-gigs/#findComment-35805 Share on other sites

Annasfield
Squeeze is the 5th December - for a minute there I'd totally lost the plot. I'd not put the dates in my diary and then I couldn't find the order confirmation. Thought I'd imagined it all - really need to dye my hair blonde to match brain! Best venue in Hammersmith was the Palais - went to one of the last gigs there. The Good the Bad and the Queen - a very bizarre night. char1ie
I loved Kraftwerk at Brixton and I recently saw OMD playing their classics at the Dome. But then I am an anorak so this sort of boyish electronic music is right up my alley. TBH I haven't really moved on from the big raves of 1991. Jah Lush
Yeah, it's bloody terrible the Palais has shut down, was one of the best places to see bands in London, went to many a great gig there over the years. Last one was Primal Scream a couple of years ago. Top night! Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1326-great-gigs/#findComment-35832 Share on other sites
