Scott, great night on Thursday. Thanks. Can't wait to come back next week.

I couldn't help but notice your projector screen concealed in the ceiling. Is it fair to assume you're going to be showing football? Might you be showing the Spurs-Arsenal match this Tuesday?

Just want to add my belated thanks, I posted on the other Uplands thread by mistake, forgot about this one :)

The pizza was great and I was delighted to find a lager I hadn't tried before which actually tasted of something - now will be in this week to try the Broadside (thanks so much for having Broadside, Scott!!)

Also delighted to discover a fellow melodeon player wannabe who lives in my road :))

:)-D

I knew you would see an opportunity scott. The Prince Albert is not for everyone. :)

Can we keep the screen for rugby and golf please.

There's a thought - are you showing the Ryder Cup by any chance?

These are already available, but it would be wise to check with the Warhol eatate that there's no infringement of copyright.

I like the porn idea, but it might be a tad progressive.

But it could be a televised spectator sport which doesn't consist mostly of footage umbrellas seen from above, grass, conversations you can't hear and silly trousers - accompanied by the sound of light wind broken by occasional half-hearted clapping.

Actually *Bob*

I've just purchased an "eco" paint that takes 48 hrs to dry between coats

The job it's going onto will take 4 coats, so I'm going to film it & ask Scott to show it

( just to wet your appetite it's in French Grey number 8 )

Fancy a preview copy ?

W**F

Really enjoyed the atmosphere at the Actress last night. I ususally don't like to watch football without sound but I thought it worked well. And hopefully it will discourage the kind of 'fans' who sit there shouting and swearing at the screen, ruining it for those of us who appreciate that it is in fact just a game, and really not worth getting that worked up about. Last week, for example, at another pub in ED, I had the pleasure of sitting next to a man, who at one point shouted out (without pausing for breath) "What you f*cking doing, Lennon? Yes, go on, Lennon! Oh f*ck off, Lennon!"

Arf! Not me. Could have been though but I wouldn't have said "Oh f*ck off Lennon." Was it in the CPT or Hoopers? I was probably at the match but what's wrong with a bit of passion when you're watching a match? Jeez!

By the way what's the point having the football on if you've got no sound. Beats me.

    • There's probably a bigger discussion on why we celebrate Christmas (pagan/religious festival) and why everything has to shut down.  I've enjoyed Xmas days in Spain, Mexico and France where some businesses and restaurants are open, and in a number of non-Christrian countries.  In both sets of occasions it has been festive, but not over the top and the Spanish seem to have a more relaxed attitude in a country where the church is probably more important than the UK.  A Lounge conversation.  I'll no doubt be popping into the Forest Hill Road supermarket on Xmas day for things we have forgotten, with many others in a similar situation who grew up in the Christian faith (I've long since been an atheist).
    • Would anyone have ends of balls of wool, any colour, to mend an old blanket? Any colour? With thanks Mila
    • I’m not a Gail’s fan but there’s no reason a business shouldn’t open on Christmas Day. However, nobody should be compelled to work the day which, given the widespread coverage of Gail’s questionable employment practices, has to be a possibility here.  The only business I ever use on the 25th is maybe a pub and that’s a rarity these days but buses running would be very welcome for visiting etc. But the swings in the park should definitely remain chained up. Are parks even open on Christmas Day?
    • To be honest, pal, it's not good being a fan of a local business and then not go there. One on hand, the barber shop literally next door to Romeo Jones started serving coffee. The Crown and Greyhound and Rocca serve coffee. Redemption Coffee opened up not far away, and then also Megan's next door to that. DVillage was serving coffee (but wasn't very popular), as was Au Ciel (which is). Maybe also Heritage Cheese, I don't know. There's also Flotsam and Jetsam doing coffee and sandwiches at Dulwich Picture Gallery in the other direction. The whole of Dulwich Village serves coffee. And yet on the other hand, there are enough punters to support all good coffee shops. With the exception of Rocca and Megan's (which are both big spaces) and C&G (which does coffee like everything else - slow and with bad service), all these places regularly get queues out the door. Gail's often has big queues and yet very few people crossed the street to Romeo Jones (which was much better)... Half the staff at Gail's are perfectly fine and efficient. The other half are pretty offhand and rude. It's certainly not welcoming or friendly service. But they're certainly hard working, and no doubt raking the money in for Luke Johnson...
