Dog crap is totally unaceptable. For some reason there has been a significant increase in the "Crimean" quarter - newcomers not understanding that it's the deal to pick up after the dog, or being just lazy I'm not sure. While we may be better than France that's not much comfort when trying to scrape the s*** of your shoe.

According to Southwark Council their community wardens act on information about offenders - but unless we have a DNA database for all dogs I can't see it working. My libertarian instincts do stop at dogs, cats and other animals using my pavements as a latrine.

Hi Bob,

Not sure if you were questioning my dire spelling:-$ Or what I meant by fashionable?

If the latter, I meant, when I was a child everywhere I looked people were walking dogs, then the dangerous dog act was introduced and gradually, there just weren't so many dogs about, now every other teen on the street has a staff or similar with them, and lo behold, dog poo everywhere!

If the former - I apologise!;-)

I'm told (by dog poo experts) it's something to do with the ingredients of dog food which have changed over the years. These days even dog food has been 'Olivered'. They're obviously putting a higher quality of minced beaks, fins, hooves and giblets. GM-free and organic, no doubt.

Poetry Dulwichmun? Well you asked for it.

If on a sunny ED morn or a dark and chilly night

I catch the bloody cynophile who thinks it?s somehow right

To walk their little poochi poo, mutt or thoroughbred

Up the path on which I live to my gate beside the shed

And there let it relieve itself in a most unpleasant way

That when I?m rushing out to work it fair can ruin my day

I will not stop and ask them why or even remonstrate

But their cranium and my cricket bat will swift acquaintance make

I?ll just be off then shall I?.

I saw a dog-poo hoover machine in operation over at Belair park during the summer. It wasn't falsh and new like the Paris model - rather like a golf-buggy with a giant vacuum attached. The guy was trolling around driving up to every bit of dog-do he could find and phhlupping up the offending morsels.

citizen.

Blegch! Sounds horrible!

I?ve been thinking. Instead of having to scrape your best friend?s doings off the pavement and into a bag, which can be quite unpleasant. Dogs catch on quick so why not train them to ?go? into the bag?

Perhaps even specially designed paper bags (like little doggy loos) that can be disposed of after a walk?

    • A shout out for Mark, owner of Pure Plumbers. 07970 971510 They're well established in the Sevenoaks area, but have recently started doing more work in SE London.  Did some v quick and efficient bathroom and boiler fixes for me; have also seen some of the bathrooms he's built, which have a nice attention to detail. • Totally agree regarding not supporting chains. Gail’s was fine but last time I went in Feb this year, actually walked out Fayetteville looking at menu and waiting 15 minutes to even get glass of water and not busy at all. Staff gone down hill - sooner it goes the better… Always prefer to support non chains - so many lovely places with good food to choose from with pleasant staff who know about customer service and sadly, non English which says a lot for our culture, pubs are also becoming abit of a hit and miss affair but maybe just unlucky. At the end of the day all about the chef. Still abit unclear where new place is located - is it down the road from Goose Green where parade of shops are before Peckham Rye?
    • Surely only where the local businesses offer clear advantages, otherwise you are rewarding what should be failure. I want to be served by a better bakery than Gail's, not a worse but local independent one. Certainly give a local independent some time to get the offer right, but don't buy goods which are worse and or more expensive just because the outlet isn't a chain.
    • Let’s just boycott all chains in favour of local businesses.  Places like Gail’s popping up everywhere has a very damaging impact on small businesses. It’s just the same as the new empanadas place but on a bigger scale. I’ll say it a million times more, we hold the power with our choices. Let’s use our power to look after ourselves and our environment (which includes small local family businesses). And yes, I also love Chacarero.
