After another attack this morning i was just wondering whether anyone else suffers from this.

it's basically a crossover in conceptual understanding of the real world and how we interface with technology.

Symptoms, personally speaking, include:

Constantly trying to point at things in the real world with my mouse

Getting annoyed that singing a song to myself doesn't increment the number of plays in my iTunes library

Increased anxiety in lifts when i can't shoot out the overhead bulb

Admiring sunsets and wondering what the resolution is

Looking at nooks and crannies in my surroundings and working out how I'll get up there

Looking at nooks and crannies in my surroundings and avoiding snipers

Mentally highlighting an unfamiliar word in a book and hitting the 'definition' button

Anyone....anyone...?

A kind of version. Playing poker in the flesh - don't know when it's my turn have to be constatntly nudged. Constantly asking how much is in the pot and looking for a cursor to pull over it and tell me. Biting my lip trying not to say "Fucking lucky donk" when some one calls your bets with 2, 3 unsuited and hits a 2 and 3 on the turn and river...now where's that anoymynous chat box...

Terrifically annoyed that I can't type as fast as I can think the words.

Annoyed that the word-cloud-of-ideas needs to first be expressed in actual words before they can be typed. I just want to be able to throw the cloud of 50 words onto the page (screen).

And yes, peed off that I can't phone everything I lose on a daily basis. I want to be able to phone my keys.

I asked mss us mockneynif she had any. She's not very geeky so had a think, then realised that (given fiery Irish temper) she mentally bashes ctrl+Z after losing it at someone at work.

I'm pretty sure we all would like an undo button from time to time.

I was in the supermarket the other week and hunting for some nuts which could have been alongside the fruit/veg or beside the baking goods or with the 'snacks'

I was wishing for a search function that would just bring all the various packets of nuts and line them up in front of me rather than me trawling through all the aisles.

When I'm on the 176, I sometimes think how great it would be if I could use arrow keys to direct the bus away from its route and stop outside my front door instead.

(thread makes me think of those futurists and theories about the Singularity ... hurts my head trying to imagine the future)

    • I think the family is a valuable soft power. When Zelensky was humiliated and bullied in the White House, he was at Windsor for tea the very next day, which sent a powerful message. Same when the king visited Canada.  I think even republican states and their leaders do revere the idea of a royal family and all the pomp that comes with it. Being able to dangle a second state visit invitation to Trump, who requires subjugation by flattery, affords us a not insignificant amount of leverage.  Their supposed apolitical stance does give them a valuable platform to advocate for causes, for example for climate change, domestic abuse, homelessness, etc and maintain visible relations in the UK with different religious and ethnic groups (charles has been v good at this).  The more the family can visibly separate wealth from power, the better. I think some of the the ways the duchy of cornwall makes its money is repugnant. For eg, if it's going to lease land and property to the NHS and MOD it needs to be peppercorn, not for profit. There's a lot of sketchyness around the duchy, and any scandal seems to disappear in a matter of days, which demonstrates the frightening power the palace yields. If William really wants to make the family above reproach, his family and estate has to be squeaky clean and it simply isn't  He and his father also needs to go one step further and pass a government act so the rogue's titles are truly stripped, not just in abeyance. There's still more scandal to come and they'll need to be even more ruthless
    • Julian built me a fitted wardrobe, I was really pleased with it.  Quick work and he was really flexible about what I needed, made it exactly to my requirements which was great.  lots of excellent advice.  Definitely recommend him for any carpentry work.
