Snorky, your problem is you have strayed outside the remit of the average 'BITE' reviewer.

If you limit your criticisms to eg 'no etched glass panels in lounge area' or 'hardly a beard in sight' - then you should be ok.

Still it seems a shame we should be robbed.. I feel your Bishop review will be worth a look. Why not just post it right here?

Bishop

"Yummy Mummy ? that?s a phrase that make you grind your teeth and mutter vague obscenities at people on public transport isn?t it. I suspect that YM is on e quite happily tossed around by the ?YM? themselves, even if they are far on the wrong side of 30, having lost their best years in climbing the greasy pole of corporate success. You never hear of single mothers on peckham estates being described as YM do you ?

Scummy mummy anyone ?

Hmmmmm

Anyway, the Bishop, If you like your YM hot n ready, the you will feel right at home here in the afternoons, where legions of buggies and their precious loads battle for space on the distressed oak beam flooring. The ramshackle mismatched tables and chairs will be piled high in bar food and swimming in drinks for mothers and children alike.

I witnessed a child barely broaching 2, snugly asleep in his buggy, proudly clutching what looked like his favourite book.? My first 1000 words in German?

I barely know 1000 words in English.

The interior is surprisingly spacious ( GCH Not tested ), with a bar big enough to make paying for drinks relatively hassle free ? and they serve your change on a silver ( coloured ) platter. Nice touch. OK range of beers, including ubiquitous real ales and a decent range of bottles. The depth of the pub and the layout mean its quite easy to get nestled in and enjoy the evening. It does however, get rather busy at the weekends, with punters spilling onto the street, much to the chagrin of the local residents .

It?s missing something though. Not sure what ? there?s nothing to get irked about, the staff are pleasant, beer good, service and foot quite acceptable, But that?s where it ends. Its neither a destination to aim for, nor a local to feel quite comfortable in ? maybe the intrinsically transient nature of the evening crowd- early- mid 20?s renters and first time buyers don?t really cement the place.

The most memorable and oft commented feature of the Bishop is that it?s got a sleek dog that lurks inside. A weimaraner to boot ? a hunting dog that?s doesn?t hunt any more, stuck in the seething melee of SE London.

Quite apt for the Bishop in some ways."

Update - the cap twisting forelock tugging sycophants who run BITE have not stuck up my review of teh Bishop nor have responded to my mails, one week or so on, querying why not.

It is not for me however to suggest any collusion between bar owner and site owners to restrict the reviews to only ones that show the place in a good light - that would be unfair - I does concern me tho'

IT wasnt even a bad review - not really.

So if Mr Bishop is lurking ( along with that tiresome and squat Mr Deli with the bad attitude and hotline to his ambulance chasing solicitor ) - please do tell us what the relationship is between you and teh BITE and why teh BishBosh is the only pub you have to have comments approved by "them"

    • I don't want to name a shop, but I have twice at this busy time of year had an issue, and yesterday was overcharged when buying a number of small things. If you are using a shop which doesn't give an itemised receipt, or doesn't give a receipt at all, just be aware that it might be a good idea to check that you are not paying over the odds (and if using cash, that you are given the right change for what you handed over). When staff are busy they might make mistakes.
    • As I had a moan on here about the truly abysmal Christmas meal we had at The Cherry Tree last year, I am redressing the balance by saying we had a really excellent Christmas meal at Franklins last night. Every course was absolutely delicious and  really well cooked. The staff were lovely despite being exhausted and run off their feet. In particular, my sea bass was a large portion and cooked to perfection, in stark contrast to the small dried up portion The Cherry Tree provided, from which I was barely able to scrape a teaspoonful of flesh (that is not an exaggeration). And our Franklins meal cost less than half what we paid at The Cherry Tree (to be fair, that was on Christmas Day so the Cherry Tree costs would have been higher, but that doesn't excuse the appalling quality meal). Thank you again to Franklins for restoring our faith in eating out at Christmas!
