kennethw
i was in this afternoon and the pool seemed a bit cleaner, so the visibility was a bit better. it *could* have had something to do with the new goggles i was trying out, of course. :) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/16164-ed-swimming-pool-hygene/page/2/#findComment-421178 Share on other sites
eucalyptus
yuck! don't swim in public pools - ewwwwww. If you can't swim in the ocean (or a lake) - don't swim. Go for a run instead. I'm from NZ and I love to swim and surf but I would never DREAM of swimming in a gym pool or a lido. get outdoors and go for a walk in the park. and it's hygiene. indiepanda
Perhaps In new Zealand they don't pump sewage into the sea? There was a time when I lived near Southend that the water quality really was disgusting because of the untreated sewage being pumped out to sea - I'd have far rather swum in a pool that risk swimming in that. James Barber
The feedback I've had so far is that today the temperature readings are:Family/accesisible changing areas = 21.7 CMale changing area = 22.3 CFemale changing area = 22.2 CLobby area = 21.6 CThese all seem reasonable. As they've now been alerted to potential temperature and draught issues they're now monitoring these. As for pool hygiene any problems please do email me directly and post here so we can get things inspected quickly. Nero
Great pool, but FILTHY floors in the (male) changing rooms at times. Cd someone wipe a mop over it - preferably one dipped in some disinfectant - every hour or so? It is basic hygience/courtesy. Peckhampam
The floors are dirty in the female changing room as well. Also, 22.2 degrees in changing room may sound reasonable but isn't. If you think of the differential between that and the lobby temperature 21.6, where people sit fully clothed, not wet and in swimming gear, you will see it is nowhere near warm enough. joom
I agree, getting out of the pool and walking to the changing rooms is particularly cold - I think it's worse on the family/mens changing room side. I think the whole area should be very nice and warm - after a good swim one doesn't want to risk pulling a muscle due to uncontrollable shivering on the way out!! (I should know, I've done it before!) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/16164-ed-swimming-pool-hygene/page/2/#findComment-421490 Share on other sites
Nero
Disagree with the warmth. 22C is plenty warm enough, especially if you have been exercising in water that is 27C. Warm, stuffy changing rooms are the bane of my life - and plenty of others. Have a pleasantly warm shower, dry off quickly, don your coat/scarf/hat and be on your way. James Barber
Is it possible we think the male and female temperatures of 22.2/3 C are fine but the family changing area which takes longer to change in trying to corral youngsters into drying and dressing feels cold at 21.7 C ? jam_log
I personally don't see a problem with the pool, I probable use it 4 times a week in the mornings around 7am and i have never had a problem at all. Mondays i think the water is too hot, but the temperature normally is perfect for me.i agree the changing rooms are a liitle draughtl, but not worth moaning about. Peckhampam
No. We don't think the female changing rooms are fine. Whenever I am in them everybody is grumbling. try them sometimes James....you can say "It's alright. Manda
I swim there a lot and the water is colder than some pools I've been in until you start swimming and then it's fine. I prefer it that way as it keeps me moving, which is my whole reason for being there. However for kids perhaps it's a little cold, I remember at my old pool (York Hall in Hackney) the separate children's pool was always like a hot bath compared with the adult pool. We're having to share at ED so I suppose a compromise has to be reached. From an environmental perspective, it's probably better to be conservative with the heating rather than over-heat for comfort. Changing rooms are fine too. I prefer them to be luke warm as opposed to hot as you don't want to shower and dry yourself only to break out in a sweat the moment you put your clothes on. For children, again this might be different, I always hated cold changing rooms as a kid but just had to deal with it. Brrrrr. I go in the evenings and haven't found them dirty so far. All in all I really like the pool, they're never perfect but I think it has a lot of good points. James Barber
We appear to have reached the point where as many people are saying it's fine as not fine. Not much I feel I can do without a clear issue to get my teeth into.Hi Peckhamspam, Funny suggestion. My colleague Cllr Rosie Shimell has already said she'll pop along. E2
I fine the female changing rooms too cold as are the family rooms, but also dirty. Would be good if someone could come and check them every hour and clean the floor if necessary. Ladygooner
I have just had my first visit to the baths since the refurbishment and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised! The water was the right temperature as were the changing rooms. Only 5 showers so not ideal when busy but all very clean. On my wish list would be hooks outide the showers to hang towels and one of those spin driers for wet costumes. mrs f
I went for the first time on Friday afternoon and was very disappointed. The floors in the female changing rooms were FILTHY, I was walking on tippie toes to not stand in all the crud on them, this is horrible and needs addressing urgently I'd say. I usually swim in another pool and have to say I found the water too warm. I also found the amount of hairs and debris in the water horrible.... I also have a bit of a problem with people who can't understand the swim clockwise rule although that isn't the fault of the pool but perhaps the lifeguard could have explained this to this guy so he didn't hit me every time we passed.... hmmmover all I was really disappointed sadly and don't think I'll be back, especially not for ?4 a time. Ladygooner
I think the floors get filthy because people wear their outdoor shoes in the changing room when the floor is wet. I noticed there are disposable blue overshoes outside the door so people could put these on to stop this happening. Personally I always wear flip flops in changing rooms and to the pool. mrure
Overall, I think it is a good pool and the temperature is ok. Environment is a bit chilly after getting out the water, but that is normal. What does bother me is the sopping wet floors in the female changing room. They aren't cleaned up often enough.
