Hi all,

Just wanted to flag a burglary on Dunstans road today - we discovered it this evening. Waiting for the police to arrive but please be aware there are thieves operating in the area!

If anybody can advise if they saw anything out of the ordinary - we think it may have been c.4pm- we are on dunstans in between Goodrich and Upland road.

Thanks

Let's just say in such a manner for us not to notice until after we had been home for an hour- they stole money, jewellery and laptops- quick and easy things to carry.

Aparantly it's common in the area and on the up- they are doing it at a time when people are out in the afternoon and then diving in quickly and grabbing easy things.

Best thing for people to do is triple locks and alarms and be aware even if you are home alone in the day especially.

jah, so close to my home...

i was walking my dog up to the hill before four but i only saw kids coming back from goodrich school and some guys doing refurbishment works at one of dunstans road houses, nothing suspicious

EDIT - i need to correct myself, dunno why i thought it was between goodrich and underhill... if you are between goodrich and upland - so just next to dawson hill - the only thing, that maybe wasn't especially unusual, but might be helpful - there were two guys (in their twenties to thirties) sitting in the car parked near s david's mansion, just behind this silver sport car with broken/damaged rear spoiler/wing. i noticed them as they're laughing when i was passing by. however i couldn't recognised them nor even say what was the make of the car. I noticed only that guy in driver's seat was black, that's all. but if the're strangers or live localally - i got no clue, i live here to short to recognise people, except these few i met in the park...

Thanks Miss P- we will be doing that from now on but never felt the need before as felt so safe! Would recommend everyone do the same although we were double locked so they do find a way!

NowandHere- thanks for the feedback although the police think they were on foot and quick win opportunists. Good observations!

Be safe x

Sorry to hear about your break-in Rose. I think someone has had a go at our back door lock - it looks like one of the pins has dropped inside the lock and we are no longer able to open the door with the key. Can't be sure until the locksmith comes round, but we are only three roads away from you Rose and it seems a bit of a coincidence.
Sorry to hear of your burglary, we had Victim Support round today fitting a bar to our door and a chain - they're stopping the scheme on 31st March so if you're wanting a visit from them make sure you book them in soon! Wonder if it's the same scum who did our house a few weeks back :(

Please tell me your last comment was a joke!

So far so good, we haven't been burgled in this house ( Oakhurst Grove) for many years since fitting a chubb 5 lever lock to the front door, and then making sure that it gets locked with that, both on exit and on entry.

Back door has no access for the key from outside, only from inside. Maybe something to think about?

    • Here's the part of march46's linked-to Southwark News article pertaining to Southwark Council. "Southwark Council were also contacted for a response. "Councillor James McAsh, Cabinet Member for Clean Air, Streets & Waste said: “One of Southwark’s key priorities is to create a healthy environment for our residents. “To achieve this we closely monitor legislation and measures that influence air pollution – our entire borough apart from inland waterways is designated as a Smoke Control Area, and we also offer substantial provision for electric vehicles to promote alternative fuel travel options and our Streets for People strategy. “We as a council support the work of Mums for Lungs and recognise the health and environmental impacts of domestic solid fuel burning, particularly from wood-burning appliances. “We are currently updating our Enforcement Policy and changes will allow for the issuing of civil penalties ranging from £175 to £300 for visible smoke emissions, replacing the previous reliance on criminal prosecution.  “This work is being undertaken in collaboration with other London boroughs as part of the pan-London Wood Burning Project, which aims to harmonise enforcement approaches and share best practice across the capital.”
    • The solicitor is also the Executor. Big mistake, but my Aunt was very old, and this was the Covid years and shortly after so impossible to intervene and get a couple of close relatives to do this.  She had no children so this is the nephews and nieces. He is a single practitioner, and most at his age would have long since retired - there is a question over his competence Two letters have already gone essentially complaining - batted off and 'amusingly' one put the blame on us. There are five on our side, all speaking to each other, and ideally would work as a single point of contact.  But he has said that this is not allowed - we've all given approval to act on each others behalf. There are five on her late husband's side, who have not engaged with us despite the suggestion to work as a team, There is one other, who get's the lion's share, the typicical 'friend', but we are long since challenging the will. I would like to put another complaint together that he has not used modern collective communication (I expect that he is incapable) which had seriously delayed the execution of the will.   I know many in their 80s very adept with smart phones so that is not an ageist comment. The house has deteriorated very badly, with cold, damp and a serious leak.  PM me if you want to see the dreadful condition that it is now in. I would also question why if the five of us are happy to work together why all of us need to confirm in writing.             The house was lived in until Feb 23, and has been allowed to get like this.
    • Isn’t a five yearly electricity safety certificate one of the things the landlord must give for a legal tenancy?
    • Very sorry to hear this, but surely the landlord is responsible for fixing the electrics?  Surely they must be insured for things like this? I hope you get it all sorted out quickly.
