Cora
Apologies if there is another thread..couldn't see it...walked past Toast ED today and I'm sure it said that it had ceased trading and its interior was being ripped out...Seems very sudden and a great shame... NewWave
I only ate there once and was very underwhelmed. It just never looked very inviting tbh. doogsey
According to one of the staff, they're closing for 4 - 6 weeks and will re-open with branding from their sister restaurant (Terroirs, I think), so fear not, it is meant to be more or less the same! Take Note
Me too! Certainly some of the best I've had - pretty experimental. Was just thinking about it yesterday... El Presidente
This place used to be great - amazing, innovative food. And then i think they changed management or chef or something and the food went downhill fast. Had a terrible meal there last time and stopped going. Still loved it for a glass of vino though. James Barber
The current premises status I believe is as an A1 shop. They were a wine shop come delicatessen that also served food.A change of use without the correct planning permission would be illegal. edhistory
It's also a legally protected frontage so A1 > A3 should not be possible. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/168440-toast-ed-no-more/#findComment-1179285 Share on other sites
Abe_froeman
Fortunately it was granted change of use from A1 to A4 some time ago.http://planbuild.southwark.gov.uk/documents/?casereference=11/AP/2949&system=DC Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/168440-toast-ed-no-more/#findComment-1179320 Share on other sites

binkylilyput
I don't see how the change makes any difference. Terroirs is pretty much the same set up as ToastED Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/168440-toast-ed-no-more/#findComment-1179345 Share on other sites

edhistory
Yes, you're right.I've appended summary descriptions of the A Classes.I suspect some EDF contributors are not familiar with these.A1 Shops - Shops, retail warehouses, hairdressers, undertakers, travel and ticket agencies, post offices, pet shops, sandwich bars, showrooms, domestic hire shops, dry cleaners, funeral directors and internet cafes.A2 Financial and professional services - Financial services such as banks and building societies, professional services (other than health and medical services) and including estate and employment agencies. It does not include betting offices or pay day loan shops - these are now classed as ?sui generis? uses (see below).A3 Restaurants and caf?s - For the sale of food and drink for consumption on the premises - restaurants, snack bars and cafes.A4 Drinking establishments - Public houses, wine bars or other drinking establishments (but not night clubs) including drinking establishments with exapnded food provision.A5 Hot food takeaways - For the sale of hot food for consumption off the premises Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/168440-toast-ed-no-more/#findComment-1179350 Share on other sites

cactus
I thought it was always part of Terroir.Agree that there was a little bit of a dip with the food a couple of years ago, but I've beena few times recently and really enjoyed it. d.b
Lynne Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> The last time I went I honestly thought they'd> forgotten to put the meat into my meal, there was> so little of it.Did you order meat? Really surprised by this, if you go and order e.g. a pork loin, you get a big chunk of meat. The smaller plates are clearly not traditional "meat mains" and are priced as such. I've always really liked the place, some dishes are a bit hit-and-miss but I've had several really memorable things there that compare favourably with properly high-end restaurants. They're particularly good at making vegetables taste amazing. Lynne
I agree that they're good with vegetables, but when you order duck and find that there's only a really small amount of duck lurking right at the bottom of the dish under a heap of greenery you feel a bit cheated.
