close but no cigar.. i was thinking more wrist strap, the kind you see on cameras to stop yourself droping it over a cliff or off a boat (this is my idea came from). I can slip it over my wrist when phoning, texting or playing scrabble.

At the end of the day things are going to get stolen. That's why we buy insurance. If you are a phone robber, you are always going to look for quick and easy targets. It is surely therefore sensible to suggest that those most likely to be robbed take the necessary precautions to minimise that. We do that with other things. Who in their right mind would leave a laptop on a car seat or park an expensive car in a poorly lit vacant street etc.


The wrist strap seems like a good and simple possible deterrant to me.

I remember once when a lady had a fit and a small crowd gathered to try and help/gawp.

A smart dressed man pulled out an impressive looking cell phone (yes it was that long ago) and loudly described the situation to his mate.

When someone pointed out that he might perhaps better spend his time and energy ringing the emergency services he had to confess that it was in fact a fake phone and he was in fact a bit of a wanker.


Anyway, maybe there's a lesson for us all there about decoys or something....perhaps filled with explosives and a receiver, but I'm sure that would be an irresponsible, if satisfying, solution.

There's a HUGE difference between saying "be careful where you use your phone", and "you were asking to be mugged". I would have to question the intelligence of anyone who doesn't understand the difference.


You can either accept that there are some nasty people out there looking to steal you phone/bike/car/wallet, and take sensible precautions, or you can carry on as before in an act of defiance. Either way, a victim of theft is still a victim... but I suspect it's more likely to happen to the latter group. Your own choice.

Have seen a suspicious blonde boy and black boy, late teens hanging at the bus tops towards the top of forest hill road between the cemetery and honor oak park station. There are usually seen just together or in a group of four or five. The white boy has a distinctive puffy red face quite bloated looking and the black guy is slim with short shaven afro hair.


We have seen them on a number of occasions always waiting and looking suspicious. I am not saying it is definitely these boys but its better to be aware than not. Also they have a habit of keeping their hoods up but not always.

Which side of the road is the bus stop you are referring to? I live opposite Francesca Cabrini School and have been keeping an eye out, but so far haven't seen anyone suspicous. I have a good view of the bus stop outside Cabrini House from my bedroom window, so might step up the surveillance if that's the stop you mean. Curtain twitchers unite!

Have just shown this to my friend, she said the White boy does have a very red face, could be the same person. (she insisted he is quite thin though)

      I'm a bit worried by your sudden involvement on this Forum.  The former Prince Andrew is now Andrew Mountbatten Windsor Mountbatten in an anglicisation of Von Battenburg adopted by that branch of our Royal Family in 1917 due to anti-German sentiment. Another anglicisation could be simply Battenburg as in the checker board cake.  So I surmise that your are Andrew Battenburg, aka Andrew Mountbatten Windsor and that you have infiltrated social media so that the country can put the emphasis on Mandelson ather than yourself.  Bit of a failure. I don't expect an answer from police custody.

      We had John fit our PLYKEA kitchen (IKEA cabinets with custom doors) and would happily recommend him and Gabi to anyone. Gabi handled all communication and was brilliant throughout — responsive and happy to answer questions however detailed. John is meticulous, cares about the small details, and was a pleasure to have in the house. The carpentry required for the custom doors was done to a high standard, and he even refinished the plumbing under the sink to sit better with the new cabinets — a small touch that made a real difference. They were happy to return and tie up a few things that couldn't be finished in the time, which we appreciated. No hesitations recommending them.

      Not sure about that. Rockets seems to have (rightly in my view) identified two key motivating elements in Mcash's defection: anger at his previous (arguably shabby) treatment and a (linked) desire to trash the Labour party, nationally and locally. The defection, timed for maximum damage, combined with the invective and moral exhibitionism of his statement counts as rather more than a "hissy fit".  I would add a third motivation of political ambition: it's not inconceivable that he has his eye on the Dulwich & West Norwood seat which is predicted to go Green.  James Barber was indulging in typical LibDem sleight of hand, claiming that Blair introduced austerity to *councils* before the coalition. This is a kind of sixth form debating point. From 1997-1999 Labour broadly stuck to Tory spending totals, meaning there was limited growth in departmental spending, including local govt grants. However local government funding rose substantially in the Noughties, especially in education and social care. It is a matter of record that real-terms local authority spending increased in the Blair / Brown years overall. So he's manifestly wrong (or only right if the focus is on 1997-1999, which would be a bizarre focus and one he didn't include in his claim) but he wasn't claiming Blair introduced austerity more widely.
