trizza
This is outrageous - there is no protesting going on and no excuse - it's just wanton criminality. Send in the army. SCSB79
Did anyone see the pictures from behind the building on fire?? I hope that was people escaping and not scummy criminals going into the building to loot and steal. christina&charlie
just scooted home via Peckham high st and took a short cut to avoid a main jct and quite glad I did - did have some lippy little t*rds mouthing off and trying to look hard, but the tension in the area was so visible - i've never seen to many residents of peckham out on the streets at 6pm. Undisputedtruth
Unbelievable, I can smell the smoke from the Rye Lane fire in my kitchen. I live ten minutes away. Helicopters hovering nearby. I think the fire is under control as the thick smoke has stopped.Wrong info, I can still see the smoke from my kitchen window. LauraHW
I'm so angry! This is mindless bloody violance. Some t**t on the radio earlier trying to justify behaviour saying it's because people aren't being listened to, no jobs blah blah blah. There's no excuse for this behaviour. It's so sad that this might be the perception of the rest of the world before the London Olympics. Adam999
I agree - this is already being reported all over the world. What a terrible showcase for the olympics. It's like 1985 all over again... Alex K
This sort of thing just pushes further and further into the future any decision by Waitrose to open on Lordship Lane. randombloke
Came through Old Kent Rd on my motorbike tonight, went to Asda on Old Kent Rd: that was closed, then Morrisons - that was closed and pallets up in the doorways. Dog Kennel Hill Sainsburys closed. Tesco metro shut at the end of Rye Lane. Lots of afro-caribbean kids on mobile phones wearing hoodies looking furtive near where the road splits around the Rye and goes into the little one way system, I glanced at one and he was definitely up to no good-the armed forces call it "aware" - he was definitely that . A definite feeling of tension about the place. This is very redolent of Toxteth back in 1982 which I remember as I lived nearby. It's definitely co-ordinated- nothing to do with peaceful protest-all to do with anarchy. Can see flames near Rye Lane from our flat in Overhill Rd. Two helicopters about 15 mins ago and another other north east London. This IS London not Londonderry, isn't it? Undisputedtruth
This is much worse than the Peckham riots in 1981 when Currys used to be on the corner of Rye Lane and Peckham High Street.
