Thinking of escaping to family in Kent for a few days til this dies down-but I'm in Camberwell and unsure if the roads are open through Peckham, Lewisham etc which would be the usual route I would take?

If any one knows I'd be grateful if you respond.

Thanks.

I came onto the Forum just now to ask if anyone had heard that rioting had started in Camberwell. I work on Denmark Hill and a colleague has just mentioned this and that it is closed off. One of our security people went to the area and confirmed that it is true enough.

There have been a few police cars with sirens blaring along Barry Rd headed from the Peckham Rye end towards Dulwich Park end - is that the route they take to Camberwell? (genuine question, not being argumentative)

I just headed up (the side of) Rye Lane about 15mins ago. The atmosphere was getting tense, lots of groups of youths milling around at the bottom of choumert road, and someone was saying that "they are hitting the sorting office". Didn't stick around to see if it was true; turned around and had a swift march home.

I would avoid the routes that involve going through affected areas, as I think even cars with occupants have been attacked.

Is the A21 any good? Perhaps try going through Sydenham (currently unaffected, I believe):

Lordship Lane - right onto Sydenham Hill - striaght onto A2216 - straight/leftish onto A212 - right onto A2218 - right onto A21

Good luck

Very worried now - we are very close to Choumert Road but my son is a nursery near Sainsbury's on DKH. Not sure whether to go and get him now, or maybe he is safer where he is for the moment. Is anyone else picking up their children early?

Hello,

Just thought I'd open this up to keep up to date on happenings today. I saw something on twitter about a garage being destroyed today in Forest Hill. Also heard a woman on her mobile (about 15 mins ago) at the park end of rye lane telling her son to stay indoors as she heard about a group of rioters moving down Queens Road peckham. May just be hearsay but thought it worth alerting people as the news agencies seem not to be too interested in the Peckham/ed area today...

    • Thought others may be interested to help a local community centre help others.    My bank account offers roundup and it’s been growing all year. As well as treating myself or putting it towards a train ticket to see my family I’ve made a donation to the Albrighton. They can use donations at any time but I hope my donation will go towards the Christmas hampers.    Can you support them so they can provide Christmas hampers?   https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/albrightoncommunityfridge?utm_id=1&utm_term=M22JKQb6W   A donation of £50 will pay for a hamper to feed a family over this Christmas period. A donation of £30 will pay for a hamper to feed someone living on their own over the Christmas period.
    • I've never got Christmas pudding. The only times I've managed to make it vaguely acceptable to people is thus: Buy a really tiny one when it's remaindered in Tesco's. They confound carbon dating, so the yellow labelled stuff at 75% off on Boxing Day will keep you going for years. Chop it up and soak it in Stones Ginger Wine and left over Scotch. Mix it in with a decent vanilla ice cream. It's like a festive Rum 'n' Raisin. Or: Stick a couple in a demijohn of Aldi vodka and serve it to guests, accompanied by 'The Party's Over' by Johnny Mathis when people simply won't leave your flat.
    • Not miserable at all! I feel the same and also want to complain to the council but not sure who or where best to aim it at? I have flagged it with our local MP and one Southwark councillor previously but only verbally when discussing other things and didn’t get anywhere other than them agreeing it was very frustrating etc. but would love to do something on paper. I think they’ve been pretty much every night for the last couple of weeks and my cat is hating it! As am I !
    • That is also a Young's pub, like The Cherry Tree. However fantastic the menu looks, you might want to ask exactly who will cook the food on the day, and how. Also, if  there is Christmas pudding on the menu, you might want to ask how that will be cooked, and whether it will look and/or taste anything like the Christmas puddings you have had in the past.
