Have just heard a rumour coming from Fratton Park that PFC will go into administration this week. Not sure how reliable as all my contacts at the club now play for Spurs, however, would not surprise me at all.

They'll be the first Prem club to go under and will make things easier for other relegation threatened clubs by losing ten points. Not convinced however that they could contuniue trading this season.

You may end up being the first, we'll have to wait and see. But I'm sure if it did happen Pompey won't be the last, I'm convinced another "Leeds" is just waiting to happen.

Weird thing is a decade ago we were one of the best run clubs financially there was.

A succession of ground expansions, ill timed relegations and terrible chairmen/directors/financiers and credit crunch* have put paid to all of that.

We may not have quite done a Leeds (especially as we haven't even got a moment of near glory to remeber unless being cheated out of an FA cup counts) bit we're not a million miles off. :(

I suppose I should mention the woeful financial dealings of redknapp, Portsmouth and west ham? No coincidence there!!

Sadly they are just too wealthy - which is exactly why he is there.

The jury is out on whether Redknapp is entirely to blame. For him to sign the players on the ludicrous deals that he does, then some other idiot must be signing the cheques to pay them.

Our problem (PFC) was that our idiot owner (or his father) were flooding their (allegedly) dirty money through the club, then, when recession bites, it all stops. Not a very sustainable business plan. Compound this with the fact that the original Arab that bought us, Sulamain Al Fahim, was only trying to do so with Shinawatra's cash and you get disaster.

Hope it does not happen to the Hammers too!

You can't actually blame harry for our woes, but analysis of his reputation for canny wheeler dealing doesn't bear scrutiny and he did more harm than good overall.

Wouldn't have changed his time there for anything. Some great players and lots of ups and downs.

Nope, that's the fault of the Icelanders but he left in strange circumstances (*cough* Bung) having spunked away the then Massive ?20 million we got for Rio on a series of players who looked well past it (thanks for Titi Camara BTW) and some of whom had connections with agents who were close to him...er his other son (not Jamie) being a classic example. West Ham fans have mixed opinions on him but a significant minority think he is a thief and were not shocked by early morning police visits or the fact that he was a multi-millionairre way back when salaries were nothing like they are now...

    • This is simply untrue. The area is not 2/3 storeys maximum. Hambledon Court is on the other side of tracks from the Jewson site on Burrow Rd, is 8 storeys, and is barely known (let alone bothersome) to most people in East Dulwich. Felbridge House, Petworth House etc on the opposite side of the station from the new development are all 5 storeys tall. East Dulwich Charter (which neighbours the new development) is itself 4-5 storeys (depending on which block you're talking about). What's more, Hambledon Court was finished in about 1978 iirc and no-one has built anything similar around here since then - so the "slippery slope" "genie in the bottle" argument doesn't work either. You can't simultaneously argue that Southwark is too slow in approving new construction but also suggest this will lead to a flood of new high-rise housing! At current rates of approval, we can expect our next 8 storey building to arrive in...2072!
    • I checked - the Hanway Street place was Mandeer - it moved to New Oxford Street I think and was replaced by Hakkasan - very different prices.
    • Suppose it depends on how many Christmas cards from family and friends you’re waiting to receive. It’s been the Christmas period so surely give the post delivery service some leeway. Like Sue I’ve not posted off so many this year but some I still write letters to  e.g my late mum’s cousins and other family  but hey ho that’s something I do and enjoy.  I used to hand deliver Christmas cards to a lot of neighbours on my street but gave up this year as realised that most of them I don’t see or speak to and can only count on a few to call a true friend or neighbour.
