So it came as no surprise when, in the aftermath of the first Premier League match to be played there, Bolton Wanderers complained about Arsenal kicking lumps out of them and Ars?ne Wenger admitted to seeing an incident. Really, I am," said Wenger, in the wake of a William Gallas lunge into Mark Davies that Bolton manager Owen Coyle said was "akin to assault and changed the game". Indeed, so late did Gallas leave his calling card, play had moved up the field for Arsenal to score the second of their four goals, which prompted more boo-hooing from Coyle on the grounds that the ball wasn't put out of play.

In Arsenal's defence (coincidenteally, where the incident happened) such were Bolton's time-wasting tactics after racing into a two-goal lead, that referee Alan Wiley could have been forgiven for presuming Davies was feigning injury, when in fact the player was badly knacked. The good news for Bolton is that a scan has since revealed that the damage to his ankle is not as bad as first feared. The good news for William Gallas is that he will not face retrospective action because that's not how the FA rolls

Ruffers, the tackle may have been x rated and I agree it wasn't clever. However, the guy the busted Eduardos leg was banned for 3 games, Eduardo, a result of the tackle, was out of the game for a year. Now you tell me if the ban is equal to loss of a player for a year.

While we're on the subject of shocking tackles, Scholes can't tackle properly to save his life and as a result has clattered into opponents for many many years, and more surprisingly gets away with it. The excuse made on his behalf is that he is a "good honest(please) professional", which makes his horror tackles ok. Much in the same way that when Taylor busted Eduardos leg all and sundry were saying he's not like that because he's, yes you guessed it, a "good honest professional".

Scholes is irrelevant as to whether Gallas should get a ban or not.

Bans have never been connected to how long a player is out injured so can't see the relevance of that either.

Doesn't change the fact that if rules are followed the FA should be looking at the "x-rated" tackle retrospectively, and I still can't see how they've come to the conclusion not to when as far as I understand the ref has said on more than one occasion he didn't see it.

By the way, I think Essien's loss to Chelsea is a huge blow. He's on of my favourrite players in the Premiership and they're not as good without him. More hope for Arsenal.

I agree with you about Essien as well quids. Huge loss to Chelsea this season and a personal tragedy (if that words not a bit too extreme) for the player too if it means him missing the world cup.

Blimey! I'm impressed Jimmy.

Crystal Palace and Tottenham juniors (early 70s but only briefly at both), represented South London schools (all in my teens) quit playing for a while when I discovered sex and drugs and rock n' roll at 15, Sunday pub football later on and had to quit at 28. Miss it badly but don't miss the getting up on a freezing cold Sunday morning to play with a hangover and lack of sleep as a lot of us did in those days.

G. Neville has achieved more in the English league than Tevez ever will

Only just seen this, and you're probably right. G Neville's TEAM have carried him to a lot more than Tevez will probably ever achieve in the Prem. Tevez is still a much much better player though. (and I know they are in different positions, but I stand by that).

Also, I will always hold my hands up and call a good player a good player, even if I don't like him. I have always thought that Neville was basically shite, never understood why he's stayed in a great *spets* team, and think he's a little c**t to boot.

Ironic or what, Wenger has oft been accused of not seeing incidents, today old purple nose said he didn't see the one fingered salute given by the eldest Chuckle brother to Tevez during the game earlier in the week when questioned by a journalist during his press conference this morning . It must be catching!

Reason Gallas got away with it, for anyone else that's interested, from http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2010/jan/21/william-gallas-arsenal-escapes-action .

"The referee, Alan Wiley, did not award a free-kick and Coyle confronted him at ?full-time to ask why. The manager reported that "it's fair to say that what he [Wiley] said was that he never saw it".

That would have left Gallas open to retrospective action from the Football Association but it has emerged that Wiley informed the governing body he did view the incident and merely saw two players coming together, having stretched for the ball. As such, the FA has no scope to ?investigate further."

And I never played for anyone beyond school. 4 schools, started on left wing at each, covered in goal at each when keeper didn't show/got injured, ended up in goal at all 4.
