I think they made a mistake selling Adebayor. Ok perhaps his attitude was poor at times, but he's exactly the type of centre forward / striker they are missing. He's excellent in the air and can hold up the ball when it's played out to him from defence so that the more mobile deep lying strikers / attacking midfielders can play off him. It is so obvious to me yet Wenger is rarely slagged off for selling him. The same could be said of Fergie's decision to sell Tevez as well looking at his current form.

i know it's not an exact science, but for what it's worth this is how i see the race for fourth going:

Burnley v Man City (city 3)

Sunderland v Tottenham (spurs 3)

Birmingham v Liverpool (liverpool 1)

Tottenham v Arsenal (spurs 1)

Liverpool v Fulham (liverpool 3)

Man City v Birmingham (city 3)

Man City v Man Utd (city 1)

Tottenham v Chelsea (spurs 1)

Liverpool v West Ham (liverpool 3)

Arsenal v Man City (city 0)

Burnley v Liverpool (liverpool 3)

Man Utd v Tottenham (spurs 0)

Liverpool v Chelsea (liverpool 1)

Man City v Aston Villa (city 3)

Tottenham v Bolton (spurs 3)

Man City v Tottenham (city 1 spurs 1)

Burnley v Tottenham (spurs 3)

Hull v Liverpool (liverpool 3)

West Ham v Man City (city 3)

totals:

city: 14

liverpool: 14

spurs: 12

final table

4th: spurs 70 points (current goal difference +28)

5th: city 70 points (current goal difference +19)

6th liverpool 68 points (current goal difference +21)

Far be it for me to question Fergie's nouse in the transfer market, but Tevez is an excellent striker. I agree that they are doing ok without him and Ronaldo. But he would definitely give them that extra edge going into the end-game of the season where every little bit extra counts. Having a player like him could be the difference between winning a cup final and losing one.
To be fair to Berbatov he has stepped into the breach and aquitted himself very well recently especially considering he has been carrying a persistant ankle injury and has often been played out of position to accomodate Rooney playing as the loan striker. Berbatov's last couple of performances playing up front on his own in place of the injured Rooney have been nothing short of superb. I think most Man Utd fans are split down the middle in their opinion of him but I think he deserves some credit.

He reminds me of Le Tissier. Not the quickest or the hardest worker but a deft touch, skills, great vision and can score goals.

Le Tissier would have had a national team built around him if he was from continental Europe. For once the English got a player of skill and craft. And the man was barely picked. Disgrace.

Berbatov reminds me more of Frank Worthington. Another misunderstood maverick who never got the credit he deserved. I still remember a goal he scored for Bolton as one of the best I've ever seen. He chipped it over an onrushing defence who were trying to play an offside trap and then ran onto meet the ball as it dropped behind defence.

You've got Don Revie to thank for that. But Ramsey played his part too. I find it hard to believe that someone like Alan Hudson only got two England caps.

Apart from it being a brilliant goal, what you notice is how the ball bounces higher and is much harder to control than it is now. No grass on the pitch hard surface, harder ball.. amazing Frank managed to get the ball under control.

    • I've not engaged in this debate so far but you can't be more wrong. In the UK our own language is English, there is a small minority who can rightly claim their language is Welsh or Gaelic, and a couple Cornish. British Muslims, Jews, Hindus, Christians, atheists etc will usually speak British, even if not their first language.  The vast majority will be able to understand English.   A small percentage, less than two percent, of people living in the UK have little or no English (census data).  It is right that in certain situations eg schools there is signage and information in other languages, providing public information. It is wrong that a political party do this, particularly one who came across as opportunist on this occasion. There is an interesting conversation about British expats living, for example, on the continent, where I expect huge swathes who can hardly say a word of French, Spanish etc.
