He was very ambitious as a player, that's why he left Man U to go to Barcelona. OK it didnt work out for him there but he did have a decent spell on loan at Bayern Munich before returning to Manchester who were a relatively small club back then.

He also spent three successful years at Chelsea. So he has played for at least three of the world's biggest clubs.

Whoosh... brush it under the carpet...

It's all over the web Alan, take your pick ... Well anyway I think Giggs behaviour it's bang out of order but then I'm a Liverpool fan so you can take that whichever way you want :)

That could work, possibly in an Ancelotti - Wilkins or Mercer - Allison type set up. But not in the Upstairs/ Downstairs method. That hasn't really worked anywhere.

I'm don't know what this has to do with football. Judge Giggs whatever way you want but this is a thread that is supposed to 'focus' on football.

Obviously we don't count the handball so Tierry is on 50 goals for me ..... ;-)

I thought this was a gag at first. I think maybe Grondona's flippant remark about the Falklands woke Kissinger from his stupor long enough to remember the good ol' days (Pinochet/Videla) when he was one of the 'wise men' who helped out during the Falklands crisis.

In 1982: "Britain is reminding us all that certain basic principles such as honor, justice, and patriotism remain valid and must be sustained by more than words"

Perhaps he will support a FIFA-backed invasion of those countries/associations misguided enough to need more than a few backhanders to see things Sepp's way.

51 for you and everyone else. Try and visualise what happened. It might help.

Great to see Martin Jol back in English football at Fulham. I always felt that he was treated rather harshly at Spurs by Daniel Levy who panicked and got rid of him far too early instead of keeping faith with him. He's a good manager who will play good attractive attacking football given the right kind of backing in the transfer market. Pretty sure Robbie Keane will be moving there soon too.

Few headlines this morning that Phil Jones move to United is in tatters. Apparently United thought they'd only have to pay the ?16.5m release clause - but are reportedly having to now offer nearer to the ?22m Liverpool have now put on the table to complete deal. Seems a bit odd as Rovers had already allowed him to speak with United and take a medical.

As for Ryan Giggs well (Steven Gerrard was also under the spotlight on these same pages when he was innocent of carrying on with his sister-in-law) it strikes me that there is a rotten culture at United. Whether Fergie will drum the player out of Old Trafford is questionable - but it's a shame his otherwise clean image has well and truly been destroyed. I think it's fair to say that over the last 20 years, of United players, it was Ryan Giggs who was held in high regard by opposition fans across the country. How he will now react to hostile crowds I don't know. He will certainly be amongst people who themselves have first hand experience, but how will this effect his game. Is it time for Giggs to now do the honourable thing and quit football so he brings no further disgrace upon the image of Manchester United?

    • For some strange reason, hubby likes to spend 'big' on family cards birthday and Christmas. I think it may have stemmed from his mother- she equated money with status and was a bit of a snob!  She was also quite eccentric - we asked for a suitcase one year and got a set of 4. One year she gave hubby the equivalent of a hearing aid - it was a device to hear bird song. Nobody we know send expensive cards. We have a twice yearly set of cards from the Foot and Mouth Painting Artists and have done for the last 30 plus years. I think they are around £12 for set of 10  - cannot remember what we paid this winter but they are fantastic value and beautiful paintings.  One of the best places around to buy cards is the Fair Trade Centre at Christ Church Barry Road. Fantastic selection with a starting price of £1.30.
