Well the polite thing to do in that situation is to say ?Excuse me your pram is hitting my legs. Would you like a hand?? It could well be she was unaware of it. Just leering at someone without saying anything incredibly rude as well.

Problem with discussions like this, is that all parents get tarred with the same brush as small number of inconsiderate, frankly bad parents.

Yes there are some rude parents with a massive sense of entitlement, but I'd say they are a very small minority.

On the substance, surely by now this has been done to death. Some people are selfish idiots. They include smug, self-justifying parents who have no consideration for the way they and their children behave in public and the effect that this has on others. They also, however, include people who constantly complain about their precious little lives being interrupted by the unwelcome presence of kids, prams etc. in, God forbid, shops, cafes and pubs.

Fortunately, the majority of people are not selfish idiots, and somehow manage to rub along with each other.

They are indeed a minority Otta but a sizeable one. Many, many parents are not at fault in this regard but enough of them are for it to be much more noticeable than it used to be.

It is totally irresponsible for both parents to be drinking alcohol whilst caring for their children, I am shocked that any parents on here would take their children to a pub and both consume alcohol the same for drinking at home, one parent should always be sober in case anything happened to one of the children and they needed to be rushed to hospital! If you?re must insist on drinking regardless for the care of your children well then I?m afraid you may have a problem such as addiction!

One of the most ridiculous statements on here in a long long time, worthy of Jan Moir. Of course it's not a good idea to get royally ratted with your other half while in charge of your offspring, but sometimes having the odd glass of wine together with dinner in the evening does not mean you are drunk. And it certainly doesn't mean you have a problem with addiction. Stop lecturing in this imperious manner, really.

Are you one of those parents then?! When I wrote that I did mean parents who get drunk, but then some do get tipsy on just one glass of wine so I do stick by what I said that it's irresponsible to drink whilst caring for your children. Drinking in the evening is habit forming, I know a couple who go through a bottle of Gin as soon as their kids go to bed and yes I do lecture them aswell not that they take any notice!

If what you mean is am I one of those parents who sometimes has glass of wine with my other half in the evening, then...yes...it says so in my post.

No not at all, I meant are you one of those parents who think it's fine to both be drinkning in the pub with your children?

What if one of your children had an accident at home, you wouldn't be able to drive them to A&E and abulances can take ages even in an emergency! That is the point I was trying to make as I am pretty sure even one glass of wine would make you over the limit.

By the way the couple who drink the bottle of gin are not my friends I just know them through my other half.

No I don't have children, I only drink on special occasions and my partner doesn't drink at all. But if I did I would take my kids to the pub to meet with friends for a Sunday Roast for example but only if my they were well behaved and not running around the pub causing annoyance. If they were likely to behave like that then I wouldn't bring them.

Forgive me for saying this but it does often seem to be people who don't drink that don't understand that having a glass of wine does not immdediately render you drunk as a skunk and high as a kite.

Well then my statement clearly doesn't apply to you seeing as you don't drive. But it is still a valid point as many people could quite easily be in that situation.

I didn't say I don't drink I said I rarely drink. I used to drink socially and also used to have the odd glass of wine at home but have realised that that glass of wine isn't worth the added calories!! I don't think one glass renders someone drunk but can make some people quite tipsy and obviously affects a persons reactions and ability to drive.

Anyway enough of this, it's getting boring for me and I'm sure anyone else reading this!

Oh this thread is just too funny - I just had to resurrect scruffy mummy to join in! I've been giggling for ages. Then again, I have just gotton back from a night out with the PTA mums at the pub - that last glass of wine could be partially responsible. One piece of advice Damian - if you want to have a moan or rant or debate do not use a user name which can be traced back to your business identity. Keep your rant/moan identity separate from your business/work identity!

This thread is hilarious! Not only are children not welcome anywhere in ED it would seem, to have children you should be teetotal!! Hmmmm I've had 2 glasses of wine tonight, shock horror! Let's hope Social Services are not called in! Fortunately my partner hasn't had any alcohol, and can drive so we are all set for the A&E run ;-)
