I read last week that Radio Scotland is playing no music today, St A's day, as part of no music week/day/season. Not sure what the intended effect is, but there you go. There's one other radio station, a London one, taking part in this effort today as well. Even the station idents and jingles are being de-musiced at R Sctoland. (I love those neologisms.) Nero.

Yes Happy St Andrews day. This always puzzles me as nobody in Scotland celebrates it. As any good Scot knows its a' aboot Burns night these days. Which throws in the joy of haggis neeps n tatties. And poems by the bard himself.

The Irish have St Patricks, Aussies have Australia Day or whatever but English dont seem to have a good nationalistic day.

Why is that?

I feel very strongly that I should not have to work on any national day of celebration as we all emerged from the same African savannah 150 000 years ago and are therefore all one people. We should all be out celebrating in the streets in the traditional way with rain, whiskey, men in skirts and the tossing of large wooden poles.*

*please let me know if I have missed out any important clich?s

No one really celebrates St George's day either, maybe similar reasons to those highlighted in the flying the flag thread. It makes me laugh low the whole country goes mad for Guinness Day, sorry, St Patrick's Day, and I'll bet most people would be able to tell you it's on the 17th of March.

Ha! I have a good friend who is a staffer at the NME. And have it on good authority that Morrisseys position is not as strong as he might think thansk to something called a tape recorder. He also had right to reply when they ran his comments past him again before publication. I guess they just didnt look too good.

    • Hi - a friend sent me this link…   The car is neither abandoned nor stolen! (Nor ever has been, so not sure why that has been suggested). It is mine, I collected it from service (and MOT as identified by some on here) on Friday, driving home it had a bit of a hissy fit and broke down! AA attended on Friday, could not recover it until this morning. Spoken to the nice people inside Westminster carpet on Friday who couldn’t have been kinder, I moved the car back from the doors of the property as best I could without blocking more parking spaces. Recovery should be here imminently. Apologies for any inconvenience.
    • That's very odd if they won't answer. Do they just say "no, we won't tell you that"? I can understand they wouldn't want you to get the bread direct from their source instead of from them, but why not just say that? If they baked it themselves, I imagine they would be only too happy to let people know.
    • Possibly one of the other local garage owners may know? Also, it's possible if the owners and staff are still in the area that they might see your post. They didn't post on here themselves (to the best of my knowledge) but they must have known that I did, as a couple of times the lady who worked in reception phoned me to ask me if I could  post in the "Lost" section when something dropped in Hansler Road had been handed in to them. Unfortunately I only have their office landline  number, which presumably disappeared when they closed. Good luck! Hopefully your service manual may turn up in an unexpected place.
    • Well, that was my initial thought too, but having re-read the thread, it seems that the car was left outside Westminster Carpets. Maybe even middle-aged Lotharios can't ignore the low, low prices in their 'Remnants, Offcuts & Roll-End Sale'.   Do you know anyone with a second generation Fiat Punto (1999-2010)? Because 5 to 1, the key will fit.  I'm out of the country, watching the cricket, just now but if you can get it down to the Catford/Sydenham borders in the next couple of hours, I've got a mate who can 'look after' it. It'll be at Tilbury docks by 6 o'clock. Have you ever driven a car with an F1 style, flappy paddle gearbox before?
