My daughter had her nativity play LAST WEEK! We have already been tortured for several days now. Soon our neighbour Daniel Beddingfield will be busking on our doorstep ... again. You know busking is just a form of begging, he really lowers the tone. I can't abide new money.

Dear DM

Private schools always have too early nativities because they finish school by about Dec 14th or something mad like that.

If you don't pay then the schools (in Southwark anyway) keep the lovelies until Dec 21st and so everything is a week later!

NB New parents- the more you pay the less time they are in school !!!

ps We are getting our tree on Dec 15th weekend.

Same as us.

I must say, nativities in November are just wrong. If that's what you get for paying for private education, then another good reason to stick with the state system!

Never being a big fan of Xmas my Mum always hated the Xmas tree thing, so there was a battle every year to ensure that one was procured. They got small every year, but we still has the same quantity of inceasingly tattered decorations. The battle continued when I went to collage, of course I wasnt around in the run up to Xmas to make sure things happened and would have to go trailing off to take my pick of whatever scabby offerings were available a few days before the 25th.

I finally gave up when I got home one Xmas to find that the decorations had already been used by my Mum - to decorate the family cheese plant. I gave up and now prefer to spend Xmas with friends who know how to celebrate the season properly.

Usually go to Scotland for Christmas duration so don't bother getting a tree. If I was staying here then I reckon I would put it up around 20th and take it down on 6th Jan. As we are coming back to London for Hogmanay this year for the first time in ages I will stick up some decorations, no tree though.

Just finished putting up ours!

Oooh the decisions - this year's classy blue and white bauble theme has rather clashed with last year's all the colour's of the rainbow lights....such style dilemmas, I am quite exhausted.

But gosh it's lovely!

Traditionally decorations start going up from the beginning of Advent (The fourth Sunday before Christmas or as we refer to it on this specific day of the year, Yesterday) and then come down on twelfth night. Although I have found that if you put a tree up this early it is all dried out two weeks before Christmas.

Personally I always want to put mine up as soon as possible but try to hold out until about the tenth. I also tend to get a bit over enthusiastic and come home with a tree that is far too big for the front room. Last year we completely lost the use of one of the sofas over the Christmas period as the space was taken up by tree.

Dear LizzygotDizzy - welcome to the forum. Dont worry about flak on the forum; if this; "Am really sad, but mine went up today, well I have kids and they love it so just trying to prolong their joy!" is as controversial as you get, you'll be fine.

Keef, which bridge do you get your Christmas tree from?

Oh I so sympathise Brendan... it has taken us a year to get the front half of our living room sorted out (we don't look at the other half) and now we have had to rearrange the room all over again to fit the tree. The cats are not happy.

    • Big recommendation for Stephen Viccary who has created a magnificent bathroom for us. Quality of work is absolutely top notch. We couldn't be happier - see pics.  Stephen is considerate and tidy meaning working from home during the work was fine (some noise - obviously, it is a demo and installation after all. He does not work on multiple jobs, does a full days work and does ALL the work himself - Tiling, plumbing, lighting (including lighting on a motion sensor under the vanity and in the shower niche - for night time visits 😉), he even changed the door architraves, sorted the badly cracked ceiling and did all the paint work. A full end to end service. Stephen's number - 07941 266 145
    • Highly recommend Dulwich Eco Gardening.  When he came to quote Saied said he’d give our garden back so we could decide what we do next.  Under two weeks of hard work from Saied and Mo and we have the garden back and can see paving I’d forgotten about. Not only did Saied remove our very overgrown greenery. Nature had taken over. He also took back to our fence line overgrown ivy, apple and pear trees and and dealt with a neighbours bamboo that had invaded our garden.  We are now going to get quotes for what we do next so those quoting will be able to see the space.  Saied has suggested someone to quote and will be coming back when he does in case he has any questions or they can work together.  I thought Saied would be a good choice and he was. Quotes from others didn’t leave me with confidence for the end result. That was never a concern with Saied.
    • Having a BBQ (fingers crossed) in 2 weeks and need a small BBQ for veggie bits and any spare benches or garden tables and chairs to borrow to add to mine. Any going? Thanks in advance...
    • Oh dear, hope you are OK, I've had it three times and it was worse each time, but not a patch on many of those who got it before they vac' role out. Not commenting on the discussion as I got confused many days ago beyond the reminder that Corbyn would not compromise and the harm that could lead to him, the party and regards Brexit pre and post referendum the country.  Starmer goes too far the other way at times.
