CONGESTION CHARGE in Southwark ?

I've heard rumors that the London Mayor wants to extend the CC zone to Lambeth and Southwark and Greenwich?

Is it true ? Does anyone know anything about such rumours, and if the CCharge comes to Southwark will it be a benefit for the Residents ( more green air ) or is it just another "stealth" tax ?

If this is true, then it's a disgrace! Public transport cannot cope as it is... trains every 20 minutes in rush hour, people left standing on the platform...

Something was breifly mentioned on the News relating to Greenwich town centre only.....they are considering i believe, it would work the same was as the congestion charging but be seperate, in terms of active times and cost.

The London Underground map, rearranged so that South London gets most of the stations, just makes you realise how little the tube serves South London. Is it a good idea to bring in a congestion charge where the public transport options are limited?

I love that map. TFL forced the guy who designed it to take it off his site, and many others like it, as they're notoriously jealous of image copywrite etc. Don't be surprised if they come a knocking on this door.

I work for Greenwich, and travel to Woolwich each day (for my sins)... If they do what is being suggested in either of those plans, it will be a nightmare! Basically, people won't have the option of going around the zone, those areas are so busy because people HAVE to go through them!

Interesting that they leave Blackheath (the rich area) alone, when those roads are a nightmare in rush hour!!!!!!!!!!!

Note: I don't drive, I get the bus, and it's a horrid journey. I can't see this helping though!
