Why not come over to West Dulwich today (from 10am-4pm) to see how the other half live! There will be the most super farmers market and Christmas Fair, with live music, face painters, mulled wine and mince pies, Father Christmas in his grotto, the Snow Queen and her elf, delicious hog-roast and veggie roast, music by James Allen's Girl School and special offers in all of the shops!!!

Hurrah!

I shall be hiding in Cafe rouge on the au pair and my darling munchkins if anyone cares to join me for a glass of Chablis or two...

Oh Brendan, indeed - WestEastDulwich! I shall be looking out for you. I am just putting the final touches to my pedicure and then I shall parade around the shops sans enfants and purchase a selection of strangely shaped veg from the farmer's market. Michael, it will take more than a Winchester long rifle to fight me off with my enormous turnip!

If you didn't visit this fair today, you have missed out on something super special. My children loved the Santa in his special grotto at Thatch and Co, and the Ice Queen on stilts and her outragous elf were a scream! There was free Champagne in the garden centre (well this is West Dulwich darling) and the mulled wine flowed outside Threshers. Everyone was on top form and we even bought our Christmas tree and had our au pairs face painted (it took three of us to hold her down - perhaps we drank too much... hic!). I have bought some super organic bread and cheese, and the hog roast was perfect.

I am off for a quick lie down before supper (sigh).

    • DKH was two form entry, it is now one form entry to cope with the fact it was far more under subscribed than other schools in the area. They had actually combined year groups into single classes, 3/4 and 5/6.  When a school changes name, it’s usually because of a bad reputation perhaps the results.  The new name is dry with no history unlike its current name. It’s a very sketchy decision. It’s an expensive vanity project for someone.  What  will happen if the name change does not increase applications to the school?
    • @first mate I assume Alice made a mistake, as she removed her reaction.  I was wondering about park wardens. As I said, there was one there last night, who was incredibly helpful and proactive. As well as bringing me to the police, he caught up with a young guy on a bike who'd earlier been the victim of an attempted theft by these kids and linked him up with the police too. But I do wonder, as I've only very occasionally seen him riding around, how many they have and what hours they patrol. I've no doubt they'd be a strong deterrent if they had a better presence. They were nowhere to be seen the first time around.  Update: I've just found this: https://services.southwark.gov.uk/community-safety/community-wardens The guy in the photo at the bottom of the page was the lovely warden of last night and I've just now remembered him telling me he's based in Burgess Park. Anyway, there needs to be more of them, as I rarely see one in Peckham.
    • Some of us oldies would associate Grove with the old Grove Vale School (which I went to in the 1950s)
