katie1997
Please say its not just me getting older but WTF has happened to them?If you lived in a city*, you'd at least know that you were never far away from one ... complete with stern/lovely* (*delete as appropriate) caretaker in a swirly psychedelic patterned apron. They wouldn't dream of spritzing you with designer perfume or demanding money from you either. Now there's nowhere to go unless you pop into a cafe or a bar? And even then you can only use the facilities on production of a receipt in exchange for that magical pin code. Or the exact change. *If you lived in the countryside, no problemo! woodrot
In ED, the Penge bound revellers ingeniously use doorways to fulfill their bathroom needs.LL pubs n novelty bars - they never stop giving do they. maxxi
Judging by the number of mothers/nannies one sees on the side streets around LL on a weekend holding their little boys/charges steady while they pee up a tree or a lampost the next generation are being trained to live without public conveniences. katie1997
I think you're all onto something there....Perhaps I'm harking back to a long-forgotten, er, 'golden' era of public conveniences with attendants that just don't exist anymore. Okay the soap and the bog roll wasn't best quality but at least it was better than nothing.Maybe I need an 'app' to alert me to the nearest one? I must be old-fashioned. Hate those new metal box things where you can't open and close the door by yourself. The ones on trains are awful now too. aquarius moon
I won't use the new ones on the trains, after getting stuck in one & not being able to get out.Another time, I saw somebody push the button on the outside, the door opened, and there was a personsitting on the toilet in full view of all the passengers!Bring back the old fashioned toilets with proper manual locks - far less stressful, and I would actuallybe able to travel from A to B without avoiding coffee or liquid refreshment, for fear ofneeding the loo! KidKruger
I think it's a disgrace that what was a standard question when I was a kid would now be a question with no reply - "where's the nearest public loo ?".They were everywhere and they were free.Nowadays I guess businesses take up the bulk of the burden, I don't think the huge numbers that used public loos just stopped peeing because the loos vanished !It's an outrage, esp in early hours when nowhere's open.Maybe it partially explains the 'orliquid'squid' thread (the filling of bottles, not the dumping..).Naive comment from Maxxi, have a few kids and try traipsing round shops and cafes after dragging your kids away from the swingpark looking for a loo that'll fit you and all the kids in while you attend to the child that wanted a pee 15 mins ago. Annette Curtain
There's definitely one in Penge( it's a bit weird though )And there's lovely signs for two in Crystal Palace but they've blocked the actual "bogs" off.I know there's one in Rustington. It used to say "Clive Scrimshaw is a bender" on the inside of the door, above the crudely cut hole filled with Izal loo roll. There's was one at Littlehampton train station with a massive rubber-jonny machine inside the narrow entrance "This machine is alarmed" it said on the outside. I used to cycle an 8 mile round trip for that one.Under the Sea lane cafe in Goring-by-sea there's also one . When the tide comes in it gets a bit damp in there, so the bog roll tears easily. If I can think of anymore, i'll let you know.NETTE:-S Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/21465-public-toilets/#findComment-514928 Share on other sites

You used to have to ask them to release the access door but they stopped that a while back. You could also try:Cafe Nero (in the absence of a Starbucks or MacDonalds, both of which count as public loos in my opinion)ED Warehouse indoor market (on the left side of the ground floor about half way down)Sainsburys Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/21465-public-toilets/#findComment-515469 Share on other sites
