titch juicy
I'm sure most people agree that the book is a modern classic, but what an excellent job they've done of the TV adaptation. I didn't realsie Eddie Redmayne was quite so good. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/21631-birdsong/ Share on other sites
the-e-dealer
I thought Oh no another dreary period drama - Tried it thanks to Observer saying "British Drama at its Best" and boy was it ! Not cliched Didnt even hear a mouth organ in the trenches! Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/21631-birdsong/#findComment-516906 Share on other sites
El Pibe
I must say the idea of the book has put me right off ever reading it.900 pages of sexual tension caused by the glimpse of lace doily sounds as dreary as it gets.Condense it into a nice sunday night 2 parter and throw in a bit of ms Po?sy and some trenches stiff upper lip wot, and I'm happy with that.Thought it was rather good (though not a patch on the Edge of Darkness TV on demand we're watching at the mo). The Minkey
I seem to recall enjoying the book but second Edcam's 'terribly dull' so far. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/21631-birdsong/#findComment-516926 Share on other sites

david_carnell
Anyone else think Eddie Redmayne looks like a posh version of Dean Gaffney? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/21631-birdsong/#findComment-516941 Share on other sites

TillieTrotter
I thought the book was wonderful. Wasn't so keen to watch the programme. I think I'll let it run and do an all in one iplayer session. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/21631-birdsong/#findComment-516963 Share on other sites

Peckhamgatecrasher
Watched it last night. All I could see was Dean Gaffney - thanks D_C. He had an interesting line in facial twitches.I watched with my 17 yr old - someone could have warned me there were rude bits, I didn't know where to look. El Pibe
In the pre-war period the best you could hope for was to be a doily person! No wonder they were all so pent up and smouldering. nashoi
Quite so El Pibe. If you read the book just skip the first 100 pages. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/21631-birdsong/#findComment-517204 Share on other sites
