whats that smell?

Ive noticed a smell all over ED and where I live in Peckham Rye/Nunhead today, particularly early evening. Is it rape seed, it smells like some plant has blossomed........or am I going bonkers?

It does smell like Rape to me.

Combination of ample rain & a bit of warmth must be bringing on a bumper crop.....

& the wind is just bringing it in our direction.

This is uncanny, I went out at 7 pm this evening and thought I could smell a blossomy fragrance which I thought was Rape....

Yes I'm sure it's rape.

Funnily enough I said to my OH yesterday that I could smell rape, and that it was the first time I had smelled it this year.

I know it's flowering at the moment because I passed fields of it on the way to Whitstable on the train last weekend, and said at the time that it was odd that I hadn't smelled it yet.

I don't know where the nearest plants are to ED though????

ETA: I also smelled it really strongly this evening, and in fact the smell was so strong that I thought it must be something else.

Ah, I thought the air smelt like it had been a warm summer's day. Much as it had not been roasting I associated the smell with hot summer days in the countryside.

Yes, it's not a pleasant smell, in my opinion.

I've booked appointment foq my cat to get his balls cut off. I cant smell it outside, so assumed it was the cat.

It's also broom blossom time whichs smells similar.

I noticed a strong blossom smell in pr park today, which seemed to ne coming off the tons of cow parsley like stuff round the edges of the wooded areas.

I have some rape plants in my garden, they've practically gone to seed, hardly any blossoms left but maybe they got an earlier start than the agricultural crops. I hadn't noticed they had any smell as such. My house has been smelling of cat spray, but that's most definitely tomcats spraying against the backdoor.

I was just gonna ask if it smells pizzy because I have been smelling it too and I don't wear sandals :))

Yes, that's a different smell but also quite distinctive.
