Peckham Park
Good website about pollution on your street with an option to petition Southwark. My street near the park was a 3 - not great!www.addresspollution.org Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/236886-pollution-on-your-street/ Share on other sites
Humdinger
mine is also a 3. Is 1 worse or is it 5?I only ask as i am going to make my street significantly worse by having lots of big bonfires once Autumn kicks in, as i have loads of garden waste i need to burn, as i am not paying for it to be collected. goldilocks
out of interest - why do you say that? Is it the lack of granularity of the information on there? It links to the Kings college data so I'd agree that it won't reflect the precise reading for a particular point on a street if there is only one monitor nearby. On the other hand - I think it challenges the idea that because Dulwich is leafy with parks, that the air isn't polluted and shows that we need to take steps now to address the air quality locally. goldilocks
I did a bit of playing around with it and it seems that everywhere locally gets a '3' which tells me the data they have based this on isn't localised enough to give meaningful results. I tried the riding school on Dulwich Common, The Horniman and Bessemer Grange School and they all had the same rating which I wouldn't expect to be the case. In summary, the app doesn't tell us anything at the moment, other than that locally air quality is concerning (as these readings must represent local readings, just not necessarily as localised as the app suggests. Its not surprising really as reliable monitors are hugely expensive. I do know though that based on the work my local residents association did on our streets, that the figures quoted are broadly in line with what was recorded over a shorter period, so i'm not taking any comfort in the fact that the data in that app isn't great! RichH
The web site is brought to you by COPI:"...a non-profit creative industry alliance ? people in film, ads, tv & music who care about what's going on."I'll leave it up to you to decide whether you trust their interpretation of the data and if you think their scary call to action is justified. goldilocks
It is however based on the kings annual pollution maps which are made based on monitoring information, and that have now been updated with 2016 data and have projections to 2020. So an alternative could be to look there!https://www.londonair.org.uk/london/asp/annualmaps.asp Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/236886-pollution-on-your-street/#findComment-1369151 Share on other sites

Clearly they have taken readings at a number of different sites and then just extrapolated based on a few variables; presumably 'distance from a road' is one, perhaps also altitude or prevailing wind direction. Wondering how it works exactly. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/236886-pollution-on-your-street/#findComment-1370441 Share on other sites
