When, oh when will all those retailers with panettone do the decent thing and get it in the sale? I am esp. eyeing up the ones hanging up in EDD - but I'll be damned if I'll pay more than a tenner for one. (They are currently being sold for in excess of twenty notes). Since so many people on da forum seem to be detoxing (ghastly word, that), surely demand is at an all time low?? Come on, retailers....slash those prices!

As a Panettone fan I can guarantee you won't be disappointed by those at Lidl. I tried one to see whether at ?2.99 they could be any good and they are! Just without any expensive crunchy sugar or fancy toppings on the outside.

I think I'll pop down there this week and get another...

Italian bakers produce some 117 million panettone and pandoro cakes every Christmas -- worth 579 million euros (416 million pounds). By law they must be made according to strict rules, including using only butter and beer yeast.

But those rules do not apply abroad, meaning exported Italian cakes may not be up to scratch, and foreign-made versions may only bear a vague resemblance to the tall, puffy, golden desserts prized by Italians.

"We can't let all these imitators use a name, a brand that gives them a link to territory that isn't theirs -- in a way they are mocking consumers,"

Allfornun, the LIDL ones are actually made in Italy, but I take your point. So is plenty of crappy pasta and I can't bear non-bronze die product.

I find it hard to imagine that a twelve quid panettone could be four times better, but I am now tempted to buy a more expensive one from somewwhere (on sale, of course). Perhaps you would consider trying the LIDL one and letting us know your opinion.

Unless that's below you of course.....

There is nothing poncey about Pannettone, just because you ED foodies relate ponceyness to price then it is no wonder things just get marked up and up and up ! And personaly I think if you start to get too involved in someone's business, if it was me, you 'd be in the fryer with the coley. - And it's not the Rye it's Peckham Common actually !

    • Miatta Fahnbulleh MP House Of Commons LONDON SW1A 0AA 185 Farringdon Road London EC1A 1AA www.royalmail.com Dear Ms Fahnbulleh Chadwick Road, LONDON SE15 4PY Thank you for your communication regarding mail deliveries to addresses on Chadwick Road. Delivering a reliable service is our top priority, and I am very sorry that your constituent has cause for concern. I am always disappointed when I hear that any of our customers do not feel that they are receiving the service that they ought to. Following your communication, I contacted the Customer Operations Manager at Peckham Delivery Office. They have advised me that there are no current issues with the delivery of mail to addresses on Chadwick Road. They have confirmed that mail deliveries are taking place six days a week, when there is mail available to be delivered, and I am assured that there is no mail currently awaiting delivery. If at any point a delivery round cannot be completed on a particular day, for example we may have a shortage of staff, the unit will ensure that the address will become the priority the following working day. I hope that this reply is helpful. As always if we can be of any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us. Yours sincerely Michael Hogg Senior Public Affairs Manager   This was the reply the MP sent me regarding lack of post.
    • Not according to the article I posted on the previous page!
    • That's lovely! Good for them!
    • You’ve taken the time to write quite a long post explaining why you think as you do. But as I pointed out earlier in the thread most young people look pretty much the same they tend to wear different clothes on different occasions and unless there’s something overwhelmingly stand out about their appearance such descriptions do not help  -  there’s probably about 25,000 teenagers within walking distance of the park. Any description could apply to many of them. The police have the descriptions leave it to them.  I hope you won’t stop going to the park, to reassure yourself go onto the Metropolitan police crime site and you’ll see that Peckham Rye Park is a very safe place to be.
