snoopy17
since Tuesday my burglar alarm keeps going off every hour for twenty minutes. I phoned the council as they were the ones who put it in, but they are saying they won't fix it anymore. I phoned up adt and they won't except cash payment as I only have a post office account. any advice please on what to do. SBPy
Verisure are very good! You can even adapt the sensitivity of the sensors in the different rooms, you can take pictures of the rooms using their app and they are very reasonably priced. Penguin68
If you don't have animals (or a floating, silvered helium balloon - it happened to me!) setting the alarm off, then it's most likely a faulty sensor - and/ or an infra red one with a cobweb over it. The infra red sensors can last as few as 5 years, and do need to be kept clean of cobwebs. Also the back-up batteries (in case of mains failure) only now have a 3-4 year life, and will need replacing. It's possible that's what triggering the alarm to sound.I have found Martin Curry of Security Masters (independent in Herne Hill - 07947 321 132) very good and helpful. He will at least be able to isolate the alarm to stop it going off. Zig-Zag
Until someone can fix it you could take the battery out. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/240137-burglar-alarm/#findComment-1378159 Share on other sites

snoopy17
All sorted.I used Henson security, I can't recommend them enough, they charged me a very good price and most importantly accepted cash payment. doogleflip
I work in the security industry and my honest advice is to steer clear of Verisure. I've heard they can give a hard sale, they don't offer policed monitoring, there is no external siren and there are expensive ongoing costs compared to most alarm companies. They do a cheap install followed by expensive ongoing monthly payments. (Sorry SBPy)If you need alarm work carried out I recommend using a local NACOSS Approved company. You can search around online, ask friends and neighbours or check on nsi.org.uk. good luck! (sounds like this issue is resolved now anyway) - (edited to say sorry to SBPy and also to say I'm not in the habit of slagging off other companies but having worked in the industry for many years I feel uncomfortable with the way Verisure go about there business) I have heard quite a lot of negative feedback from my customers. Just being honest... Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/240137-burglar-alarm/#findComment-1378260 Share on other sites

Effra
Penguin68 Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> That won't help if it's mains powered.Even if you disconnect the mains and remove the battery, most alarms will still sound because they are ultimately powered by a large capacitor. This is a safety issue to stop burglars cutting the mains power and removing the battery.Hence when there is a power cut, if the alarm sounds it means the battery is flat and so it cannot keep the sounder circuit open. In this event, the capacitor steps in and powers the sounder.
