Do they tell you if they are cooking in dripping, or do they just look at you and class you as an ancient person?

What if you are a vegetarian?

ETA: It would never occur to me to ask. I just assumed all fish and chips were cooked in oil. Is there a big notice warning people about this?

Mine were in Oil and someone asked me if I was in my late 30s last week.

I'm on a roll.

It was a feature in Eurostar's magazine but there doesn't appear to be a link. It was some kind of nostalgic piece looking back at the best places he'd had chips throughout his life which somewhat inexplicably included an early branch of McDonald's. But his current haunt was Ken's which seemed more credible. Had no idea he was a local.

Another vote for Ken's, though Fish on the Hill on Herne Hill also good when they cook from fresh, I go there when Ken's has too big a queue.

I saw them filming Jay Rayner eating Ken's chips on the bench on Half Moon Lane, apparently for Netflix with some american comedian called Phil Rosenthal, my new york cousin tells me he's a big deal. There's pics on ken's facebook page www.facebook.com/thankcodforkens/.

Let's hope fame doesn't spoil the fish.

He is a really lovely man, but sadly his chips are awful :(

Agreed ! On the one occasion I tried Emily's the chap in the shop was great as was the fish but there was just something unpleasant about the chips.

But in my experience they are always limp and soft. Good chips should be crispy outside and soft inside, in my opinion.

Sadly, fresh and tasty is not enough where chips are concerned!

    • Two wrongs don't make a right. Labour ran on a manifesto of "we aren't like them" and "we are different" and"you can trust us/we will restore faith in politics". They are doing nothing to convince anyone that any of those promises are being met - they are letting everyone down. u-turning on everything and are fast-tracking the doomsday scenario of a Reform government. Even the runway on the "it's all the Tories fault" is running out. I dislike politicians because they cannot be trusted and Rayner just highlighted that with ribbons on. She should have been so careful after the focus on the electoral roll issues she had with the house in Ashton-under-Lyne and then under a year later this comes up. Clearly the advice she took included a recommendation to take proper advice that she failed to do - that's just daft and the most galling thing is that she didn't just resign when this came up - she tried to spin out of it but must have known she was toast. Trust is fast being eroded. I desperately want Labour and Starmer to fix this because the alternative it too scary to think about but the way things are going they are fast-tracking Farage into No.10. Labour are letting us all down.
    • Same can be said for the current and prior governments
    • Good afternoon, We are looking for a gardener to tidy up our climbing rose. It is very high, so the work will require someone with a tall ladder. can you please recommend anyone?  thanks s
    • So you are also old enough to remember the Heath Out protest by the TUC when unemployment hit 1 million? We all have selective memories, this thread is no different. Please give me a list of the Labour sleaze. And compare it to the Tories.  There are a few of you who appear to have a long term dislike of Labour, so all this is a gift.
