>> though I wonder if, when answering, CofE schools weren't really what they were thinking of.

Thing is, if 'British values' are genuinely reflected by things like church fetes and the CofE, then there is probably a case to be made for a non blanket ban, just those that aren't us innit.

Not so very long ago that Catholicism was decidedly unbritish, better dead than red (cassock).

Its not an assertion I necessarily agree with, but it'd be intersting to have a straw poll of the incidence of fundamentalist teaching and undermining of science in the various faith schools and how CofE would fare.

It's the quote "apparently more sinister because they're located in cities and involve different religions" that I really disagree with. The recent cases in Birmingham involved enforced religious practises.. e.g. fasting, sexual discrimination/segregation, prayer at the start of lessons, lack of sex education. In some cases racism and intolerance were actively encouraged. It's not a simple case of "Chistianity good Islam bad".

Pretty well I'd think - about 50% of the C of E don't even really believe in god themselves as in Jesus was actually the son of god, it's the wishy washiest mainstream wet liberal (in the good sense) religon of choice ...I think your barking up the wrong particualr christian sect tree if you think the CofE is full of creationists.

no chance of a take off given that its about 20 m wide and the wingspan is 60 odd.

I reckon it could probably manage an emergency landing there if it had dumped all its fuel then i guess the wings would sheer off but the body could do well given a very slow straight approach and a bit of luck.

Might be one or two insurance claims along the way though!!!

I was about to post about how every 5 miles of US Interstate Highway is a mile-long straight bit to allow for aircraft to land in time of war or emergency.

Then I double checked.

It's utter nonsense.

    • It was indeed in the vicinity of DKH. I live on the ED estate and I could tell it must be close by because of the noise. When I left my house this morning I found the culprits litter still in the middle of the st. It looked like they had lit a whole box on fire in the middle of the road. My cat jumped out of her skin. I’ll try and report it on Southwark website same as I have had to with other illegal use this week. Any other ideas for what we can do with the photos? Maybe one of the Southwark councillors. It’s outrageous and dangerous behaviour.
    • Had another great meal there…. those that haven’t tried it, give it a go.. have a special lunch menu as well so you can get a flavour of the food.
    • If you "cotton on" and read the council announcement, it clearly states "The library will be closed from 17 November until late June or early July 2026."  https://www.southwark.gov.uk/2025/dulwich-library-closing-refurbishment
    • I’ve been seeing Lisa at goose green clinic for energy work for a year now.  Lisa is kind, caring and hugely supportive. She is wonderfully masterful and trained as a reiki master for 20 plus years. Alongside other energy work.  My time spent with her is like therapy. An emotional safe space for deep conversations and reflection followed by relaxing and energising healing work.  each experience I’ve had has been different, the end result remains the same. Feel lighter, almost euphoric and almost float home. Definitely an experience not to be missed.  https://www.goosegreenclinic.net/therapies/healing-energy-work/
