Peckhamgatecrasher
Great minds Char1ie. I used to work for the company that produced the Carling Ads and went on some of the shoots - I think the whole campaign was pretty brilliant, but this one is the tops. Nero
Michael Winner's 'Calm down, dear, it's only a commercial' is good because the phrase has worked its way into our national psyche. mockney piers
Mine was for a timber wholesaler in Letchworth, shown at the old fashioned Broadway cinema. It had none other than Scruffy McGuffy in it, and we all felt a surge of pride everytime we saw such a famous and important chap starring in a local ad.ps loving the WATN for Claire Scott, a girl who single handedly left me with a pyschologically damaging attraction to terrible peroxide perms for many years:"After leaving Grange Hill in 1985, Paula continued acting, making appearances in TV series like ?Spender? and various British films. In 1988, Paula caused a stir by appearing topless for a special photo shoot in Mayfair magazine. Paula continued to act into the early 1990s, but is now rumoured to be married with children and working in a shoe shop." barrymarshall
My favourite ads are the ones they used to do (alas no more) for Benson & Hedges and Silk Cut.http://news.bbc.co.uk/olmedia/475000/images/_476117_150benson.jpghttp://www.users.totalise.co.uk/~kbroom/handouts/Metaphor%20and%20Metonym_files/image002.gifI was fascinated by the ads when I was a kid ... which I guess is why I took up smoking! barrymarshall
I usually hate TV advertising and will change channels when they come on, so I don't remember many. However, , with the lines from Moby Dick, is a classic. mightyroar
I used to love those Silk Cut ads too. sort of like dingbats, there was always some little thing you had to work out. suggesting that smoking was kind of cryptic, elegant and cool.(I too took up smoking, but am off the weed these days) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/2450-my-favourite-advert/page/2/#findComment-72634 Share on other sites

(*trivia alert*) a commercial directed by one of the few ad directors who have gone on to make a half-decent feature film - Sexy Beast. They're all wannabee film directors at heart.. SteveT
My favourite ads are the ones they used to do (alas no more) for Benson & Hedges and Silk Cut. I thought the B&H ads were a cut above, especially the one with a tin of fish with the 'gold' lid turned back that would frequently be seen on hoardings. One wag scribed on it in large letters 'SARDINES GIVE YOU CANCER' Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/2450-my-favourite-advert/page/2/#findComment-72818 Share on other sites
