Marmora Man
I wonder whether it would be appropriate to also celebrate the Silvers and Bronzes in the same way. Gold is, of course, a fantastic achievement but the other two medals are more than worthy of note. I'm not someone that would promote the "prizes for all" approach to competion but it has annoyed me somewhat that BBC commentators describe a Silver / Bronze medallist as "only" getting a Silver / Bronze - yes they didn't get first place but to be in the top 3 of a world event competing against the best from 200 countries is a pretty special effort. James Barber
Hi MM,I agree with you.I don't get presenters dismissing a silver or bronze, ie second of third best in the world, by presenters who are clearly not the best presenters or second best or third best in the world. Tarot
I think they should concentrate on getting our mail in the right letterboxes and delivery times instead of getting free publicity off the backs of Olympians, its a stupid idea anyway. katie1997
yeah, those Royal Mail Post boxes getting all that FREE PUBLICITY really annoys me too. I mean, I much prefer those numerous other places to post my letters - with no obtrusive advertising to boot! Agree with MM about the silvers and bronze, good point. Jeremy
I think it's because of the medal table. If the table took silver and bronze into account (maybe 3 points for gold, 2 for silver, 1 for bronze) then maybe we'd celebrate those acheivements a bit more. Penguin68
I suspect that the Post Office is using certain crown privileges it retains from having been a department of state - HMG is often not obliged to go through the same planning hoops as ordinary mortals. I can remember occupying former crown property which absolutely could never have been built under planning regulations then in force.
