Yes, shame the football has gone. I was there quite often on account of that.

Well, I suppose the demograph who don't enjoy football will like it more. Will be interesting to see if this and the other changes make the pub last.

Shame when New Establishments set up in E.D. and try and put their Stamp on things.

Telling the locals 'What you need is this.... and if you don't, you are going to get it anyway.'

Instead of giving Locals what they Really Need or what they are asking for.

Odd - i seem to recall starting this thread to ask for peoples input on what they would like to see at the pub.

Seems strange to me that that should be taken as telling people what to expect.

For your information we shall still be showing some football but as stated we will not be a sports bar.

We will be having live music (probably on a saturday night) but we will not be becoming a venue.

you can expect good service, good food, good ales, good wine and hopefully a generally good time.

i will be starting a new thread today to confirm the official opening date of "the cherry tree"

Chrisharvey, good luck in your new venture. Sounds like the new Vale will be a cracker. I think it's fantastic that you've come on here to ask for people's thoughts.

A lot of East Dulwich businesses have very mixed feelings about the forum. I believe the founder still spends a lot of time interacting with businesses (and occasionally their lawyers) who take umbrage at what posters have to say.

My advice for what it's worth would be to take the swipes on the chin, continue to use the forum to talk to your customers and remember that anonymity + instant posting + public voice often equals aggressive foolishness. It doesn't mean that there aren't a lot of sensible people reading but not posting, who will value a business who is prepared to hear and address legitimate criticism.

There, I meant to write something supportive, and I've ended up with a lecture. Anyway, just to say please bear with us and stay with us, and never mind the bollocks.

Is it true - as I've often heard stated - that The Vale is where the "Great Train Robbery" (Ronnie Biggs et al) was planned and, post the robbery, celebrated?

While not condoning criminality the 1962 (query date) robbery is now a part of history and might, just, make a small interesting footnote for publicising the new pub?

Hi Chris

Will the kids play area remain in "The Cherry Tree"? It was very good with lots of toys and books for kids

to play with

Certainly if you want to make an absolute fortune catering for families and children, then follow the Herne. If you want a pub with no daytime customers then ban children. Have a look around to see what your customer base may be.

Wow - free of tie. You lucky things. That means you could actually turn a profit.

Micro-brewery beers would be amazing. Only the Draft House serves genuinely interesting beer locally so if you go down that path it might well draw in the punters.

EDT (and the Antic chain generally) & Great Exhibition have massively upped their game in that regards lately. Draft House hasn't lived up to it's potential imo.

A great wine AND beer selection would be something genuinely different. Mr Lawrence in Brockley is the only place around here that really knows what it's doing in that regard.

    • Nadia did a great job tidying up my very very overgrown yard. (See the before and after photos). I live in New Zealand and my tenants said a neighbour has been complaining about the out of control ivy. Nadia was easy to contact so over WhatsApp, managed to liaise between me and my tenants. Her quote was reasonable for the amount of work that needed doing, and the end result is great! She sent photos throughout so I could track progress. Would highly recommend her to others.
    • My car was stolen a few months back from my driveway but I had a tracker and found it in a private car park in Lavender Hill close to the police station. I was lucky. The thieves hide it up against that eventuality. High spec cars are targeted I'm afraid. The way it was stolen required the thieves to wire in their own computer accessing a front light (which had had a metal sheet welded across which they prised off). They had searched for a tracker but not found it. They also had to cut away a steering wheel lock. They had to come well tooled up and briefed to do what they did. Beating them off is non trivial. As I said, them not finding my tracker was just lucky.
    • Been with The Gardens now for around 30 years and very rarely do I have a problem. I went in to collect a form and mentioned that my leg was hurting and hot- was seen immediately by the Practice nurse who then arranged an appointment on the Saturday with the Extra care service at TJ Centre where I saw a doctor, who then sent me off to Kings for further tests.. I recently booked a flu jab but appointment is in 2 weeks.
    • Have used Milk and More for years. When the price went up we cancelled a couple of pints but we still have 8 pints a week. If we are expecting family etc we buy from Sainsburys to top up. We kept on with M & M as if weather bad we could order extra stuff from them to save us a trip to Sainsburys Local. Also gives employment to our milkman.
