Dear East Dulwich Forum,


I?m a 16 year old student who?s exams have been cancelled so have a bit of time on my hands. My mum (who?s account I?m writing on) has taught me how to make face masks (see attached photos) as we may have to wear them when travelling on public transport or whilst shopping. I would like to try and sell these with all money going to two charities close to my heart; Foal Farm, an animal rescue centre in Kent (foalfarm.org.uk) and the British Thoroughbred Retraining Centre, dedicated to the welfare, rehabilitation,retraining and rehoming of retired racehorses (britishtrc.co.uk).

The face masks are made of 3 layers of fabric, are reversible, washable (and therefor sustainable). I would like to sell them for ?3.50 each so ?1.75 for each charity for each mask sold. Collection is from the Sydenham Hill area and will be contact free (I?ll leave them in a safe place outside). Money can be put in the outdoor postbox or transferred. Please let me know if you might be interested in buying one or more of these masks.


Update:

These are the masks I?ve made during the half term and will be the last ones for a while as I?ll need to get back to concentrating on school after this weekend. Please let me know if you would like to purchase any. All masks are reversible and have a different fabric on the back.

Update: All the masks have been sold and I will be taking a break now. I?ve made around 250 masks and it?s been a really great project to do. Thank you so much for your support!!

Well done Lulu1's student child.


I have made my own so experience has taught me that two elastic ear loops are extremely uncomfortable, especially if one wears spectacles.


It is easy to change the ear loops to one continuous elastic loop that enables one to wear the straps behind head and neck. Hope this helps.

Thank you so much for your kind comments Missse22 and Peckhamgatecrasher. We?ve experimented with different types and widths of elastic trying to find what would be most comfortable but also the best fit. I?m now using flat 6mm elastic and it?s comfortable to wear as the width means it doesn?t cut but it?s also not too bulky and gives a good fit. I ordered yesterday and collected this morning two beautiful and very well made face masks wich I am very happy with.

Its such an amazing gesture doing this for Charities, well done you!

Lets support this young lady and do our bit.Highly recommend!

Just picked up three beautifully made face masks - thank you for making them, and also for your generous spirit in donating money as well.


Can highly recommend if anyone is preparing for the future, travel and getting around and wanting a sustainable, comfortable mask.

Thank you so much for all your orders and for all the lovely comments, it?s really amazing!! I just wanted to let everyone know that I cannot take any orders for the next few days as I have so many masks to make at the moment and also need to keep up with my school work ( gcse exams have been cancelled but we still have lots of work set).


So far I?ve raised over ?200 and hope to make more for these two amazing charities and I?m so grateful for your support. I?m going to use the weekend catching up on the outstanding orders and will be back next week.

Thank you so much for all your support for my project! I have made well over 150 masks so far. All money raised is going to two animal charities and I am so happy that I will be able to make a significant donation to them due to all your support. Thank you.

Thank you so much, it?s been really amazing and I?ve really enjoyed making the masks and I know the money raised will be greatly appreciated! Some of the masks have made their way to places all over the country and even as far as New York!

      This reminds me of "the grasshopper" at Westerham when a tabloid paper did an exposé about their swinger parties (many many years ago)  The result was that every man and his dog went there to see if they could get in to a party. Pub did amazing business but think the club may have closed as a result.  Bet the Telegraph article will be great publicity for belair sex parties and every pervert under the sun will invade Dulwich village and the square (of shame)

      I find Fusion are Horrendous. When they ran Forest Hill pools it was always (although a new facility at the time) really grubby. Overflowing filthy toilets, dirty changing rooms, slippery floors and filthy swimming pool with cloudy water and Lifeguards who did'nt give a damn about teens  jumping in the pool and making trouble pushing and splashing adult and elderly swimmers. It was grim and I cancelled my membership and joined Dulwich leisure Centre because I got tired of complaining about changing rooms that smelt of p**s and used sanitary products left on the floor...and nothing changing..new managers would come promise improvement and making zero difference. In the End they lost the contact and FHP is run by Better and it really is....Better! I'm now happy to go there its well staffed, clean and well run. Unfortunately unless Fusion loose the contract for the Lido I fear things won't improve.
