Sympathies, I thought my post was bad...it looks like large letters are seriously delayed/lost whereas parcels and regular letters are getting through eventually.

And yes, anything i post out of ED is arriving within a few days - I don't know anyone else in the UK who is suffering like we are.

Forest Hill took on Sydenham's post instead when their sorting office closed.

we do not seem to be getting our post - loads of birthday cards and a couple of pressies posted well over a week ago have not arrived - we seem to get sales mail (foxtons/specsavers etc) which is addressed to us, but personal post is not getting thru. Really annoying

we are in the goodrich/friern road area

The Royal Mail issue continues... turns out we had two (high value) deliveries on Thursday 8th on Derwent Grove, both were confirmed as delivered by RM, one has a "IUX" signature (not ours) on the website - which is apparently what they use now for "signed for" deliveries when the person isn't in.

Neither were even attempted - thank you to our neighbour's Ring camera, we can see no postie walked up our path that day. So they are signing for the parcels themselves, not even attempting delivery.

We've been on the phone to Royal Mail this morning, and they are investigating it, but are very defensive and keep saying the postie delivered it, even though we have proof no one even walked down our path.

We?re not holding our breath, but just wanted to flag in case anyone else is getting missed deliveries.

I'm happy to report that virtually all the above items were delivered to me, most in the last week. I have actuslly noticed more RM activity (contractors wearing orange vests) delivering parcels on my road which has been, let's call it..refreshing. Hope it's not just a coincidence and we continue to see improvements.

Royal Mail is worse than ever. I?m still waiting for a package sent from Burgess Hill on 7th April by Special Delivery -supposedly guaranteed delivery by 1pm next day. Also still waiting for a package sent first class on 26th March. We did get some post today but 3 letters were for a completely different road! Truly lamentable service from Royal Mail.
The type of service you are getting does really seem to be a function of whether you have a postie 'in post' on your walk. If you do (as I currently do) you will get daily deliveries, except on rest days or when the postie is sick or on leave. If you don't, well 'go whistle' seems to be the Highshore Road mantra!
Our post improved for a while after the Christmas backlog; during which one parcel never arrived and another returned without being delivered.I have been told by our regular postman that their Annual Leave starts in April so they had use up any remaining holiday from the previous year or lose it. He came back and was told to prioritise parcels. I'm still waiting on a delivery sent at the beginning of the month.
  • 2 weeks later...

Dear all,

I have had a response from the Royal Mail. It comprises specific responses to individuals, which I will forward on but cannot share on here. However, the general gist of it is that they have had some staffing problems but that the deliveries should now be back to 6-days-a-week.

I see that there are some more positive posts above, and not many negative ones for a little while. Does this mean that the issue has been sorted? It may be that my intervention had an effect.

If not though, please continue to let me know (email is best, with your full address and details of the issues) and I will pursue it further.

Best wishes

James

Is anyone still having delivery issues?

A package from St Thomas's hospital that was posted to me on 11 August has still not arrived, and another tracked package just comes up with a message saying no information is available until the item has been delivered.

How can that be described as "tracking"?

It's now been so long that the sender has sent me a replacement. Let's hope that doesn't also go into the abyss where Royal Mail seems to keep its parcels 🙄

I had a similar type of package delivered recently that took two weeks to arrive from another part of London, so yours may arrive imminently.

I think that type of "tracking" is one of the cheaper services where only proof of delivery is required rather than detailing the parcel's journey from end-to-end and all points in between.

    • Two local ‘High Streets for People’ events happening today: - Southwark celebrates High Streets for People On Saturday 21 June, Southwark Council is bringing residents, families, communities and businesses together to celebrate our High Streets. On Bellenden Road, Peckham, there will be a community event from 11am to 4pm with children’s games, face-painting, live music including a samba band and DJs, food from local businesses, cycling activities and much more. The road will be temporarily shut to vehicles between Danby Street and Choumert Road from 7am to 7pm, with buses diverted during this time to make space for community and family activities. Councillor James McAsh, Cabinet Member for Clean Air, Streets and Waste, said: “What a great way to celebrate the first day of Summer! Streets for People is about putting people first — making our neighbourhoods places where communities can connect, businesses can thrive, and everyone can enjoy cleaner air and safer streets.” Partners in the event include Bellenden Road businesses, London Play, Peddle my Wheels, JoyRiders, Community Cycleworks, the London Samba Band, OurBike, Poetic Unity. North Cross Road market will also be extended on Saturday 21 June, with extra traders taking part. Vehicle access will be restricted up to Lacon Road between 8am and 5pm to accommodate this. Local communities are also organising a number of play streets and street parties to mark the start of summer. The council has approved 18 road closures in June and July, allowing communities to enjoy their streets without traffic for the day. All these activities support Southwark’s Streets for People strategy, which seeks to make streets across the borough cleaner, greener, safer and more welcoming.  Investments are being made in walking and cycling routes, improved air quality, and creating more space for community use. Find out more at www.southwark.gov.uk/highstreetsforpeople As part of its commitment to do something each year that brings residents, community groups and businesses together to take climate action, Southwark Council has also arranged a number of free events as part of London Climate Action Week. You can view the full list of events at www.southwark.gov.uk/climate-week
    • It does seem a common business strategy these days. River Island has just announced a similar restructuring: closing 33 shops and demanding that the landlords of a further 71 locations take a haircut.
    • If anyone has any spare tickets for Crystal Palace on Sunday let me know!
    • The tenant's business has already failed. If the landlord doesn't accept it, they can have a vacant property, stand in the queue of creditors, and get paid little or nothing. It's a gamble that the restructuring will work and the tenant will start paying rent again. Commercial properties are often hard to let. 🤷
