Oh come on, I was trying to lighten the mood. Virgins all round, and he's still grumpy.

And how would you do that ?

Just a word of caution. There's one "responsible gun owner" on here who'd shoot the burglar, so tread gently with your creative punishment ideas.

Mind you, i've had to redefine what "responsible" actually means in this case

I would shoot a burgular and indeed am relishing the thought because of this thread.

I am filling my own ammo and making dumdums on the heals shabby chic kitchen table as this very minute

I now feel alot more secure, now I am tooled up & am camoing my face as I write this. I may hunt down to phantom piss bottle distributor and humanely despatch him for the good of the community.

Thank you EDF.

If not a shooting, then how does the EDF feel about a gentle kneecapping ? seemed to sort out Belfast back in the '70s Or maybe Cutting their hands off, sharia style ? or We can always just tie them up with cable ties and smash each one of their fingers with a ball pein hammer ?

Lets wipe them scum from our streets.Premptive stikes is the way to go - theres a bloke down the street who keeps himself to himself and lives with his mother. he looks at me in a funny way.I hear theres a Paediatritian in the area - lets get the bastard before he strikes again

Hi, this is Ren - Carter's other half.

"Just a word of caution. There's one "responsible gun owner" on here who'd shoot the burglar, so tread gently with your creative punishment ideas."

Can you please explain exactly by this? I am assuming that because you have put "responsible gun owner" in quotes then you think this statement is false, and that by advising to tread gently you are implying Carter is a threat to everyone on this forum.

Can you please explain explicitly keeping in mind libelous and offensive statements.

Carter may have dismissed you, but I cannot.

Thanks, Ren x

Hi, this in Ren - Carter's other half.

"I think what pissed some people off if the fact you were so amazed your neighbours got concerned that you were out in your garden with a firearm."

"Who said they are all nutters? One nutter is enough."

Alan Medic.

Are you implying Carter is a "nutter" because he was in the garden with his gun? Please explain exactly your statement. It is not against the law to clean a gun on our property. Social Responsibility?

He had been away for 3 days at a training camp and then competition on the Sunday. He chose to come home and then clean his gun in the garden, drinking a nice glass of red wine with me in the evening sun. If our neighbour had just chosen to chat to us over the fence instead of call the police, then he would of found out everything. Perhaps we might of even been friends.

So, what are we to do? Only ever move from the flat to car under cover of darkness? Inform the Police first and make sure we have an escort and a helicopter? Only show the gun with all curtains closed so nobody might see?

His license could of been revoked that evening if the Police thought he was doing anything threatening. It wasn't.

"One nutter is enough."

Please can you explicitly confirm you think Carter is a "nutter" from this statement.

Thanks, Ren x

The differences between legal rights and social responsibilities have been discussed at length on the thread Ren, you can read back. There are lots of things that we have a right to do that we don't do out of respect for other people, particularly if they cause anxiety.

Carter brought this upon himself by claiming people who disagree with smoking in pubs should be hung, and burglars should be shot, twice.

Neither of those statements are 'responsible', and both could described as so inappropriate to be nuts (as in crazy).

Combine those two beliefs with the fact that Carter has a firearm in the house, and you can see where the derision comes from.

Incidentally, no statement can be considered libellous here unless Carter gives up his anonymity. If he does that now he would be personally culpable so that wouldn't work either.

My advice is to stop boasting about killing people, and start thinking about responsibilities rather than rights.

Enjoy!

Hi this is Ren,

Except Carter has not at any point wished that "people who disagree with smoking in pubs should be hung" nor has he said "burglars should be shot". Please show where these statements expressed as beliefs have been made.

Facts are better than hyperbole, no.

His thread titled "...and another thing..." was a rant against an unprovoked act of aggression and bullying against me, and his dislike of the people who caused it, as should be clear to those who read it. Everyone who responded agreed. It wasn't about smoking in pubs nor people who disagree with it should be hung. As highlighted - we were sat outside, doing something completely legal. If your partner or daughter was in my position alone - is it acceptable for someone to berate her with aggression and nastiness for no reason?

The term "those who have caused it to swing from lampposts" is now, I understand, a generic term against your Government and bankers (and mine) for anger about actions caused. This was meant in the same terms. It was not expressed a particular named or nicknamed person.

Him "boasting about killing people" however, is. He has not done this. Again please explicitly show where he has done this.

Thanks, Ren x

I'm implying that all it takes is one nutter with a gun to cause havoc. As for Carter being in the garden with his gun, I personally think it is in bad taste and had the effect of causing some neighbours distress. I don't care if it's not against any law.

What do you mean by Social Responsibility?

By the way if you are Carter's partner, why don't you register and have your own user name?

Anyway, Huguenot you are the ugly person who inferred that Carter was a child killer. I will not call you a man because you are not worthy of the title.

I know this is a public thread but please do not contibute again. You make my skin physically crawl, you are so repulsive.

Ren.

Ha ha, are you for real?

I made no claim that Carter was a child killer, what I was doing was parodying the idea that shooting burglars was a clean cut issue of petrified homeowners defending themselves from homicidal rapist psychopaths.

I was highlighting the very real tragedies that can occur when you make rash assumptions about who it is that's nicking your video and use a gun as the first line of defence.

When Jonathan Swift wrote 'A Modest Proposal' he wasn't actually suggesting that the Irish sell their babies as food. Go and look it up on Wikipedia alongside the word 'satire'.

I can see in your reaction to criticism a manifestation of all the attitudes that cause concern.

If you disagree with me you cannot hang me, shoot me, nor force me to shut up. Instead you have to deal with the fact that not everyone agrees with you, and that they are entitled to their opinion without being forced to submit to yours.

    • Does anyone know what local pubs/restaurants will be open this year for Xmas serving lunch?
    • That’s interesting, Dulwich Dweller; my 70 yr old neighbour told me 2 weeks ago that he’d left work early to go and book in person (being uncomfortable with all the online & app stuff) and was explicitly told that he needed to go away and book online. He’s not the sort of person to be insistent and, like a lot of older people, a bit embarrassed at his lack of digital ability, so he left without the appointment . This is my point about inconsistency, since his experience was quite different from yours. I’m beginning think that it rather depends on who, at Reception, you speak to on day…
    • Wow, never had a disappointing meal there since they opened.. guess like every establishment, depends on the chef.. All for allowing an off day - good of you to post.. much better than chains - had awful service at Gail’s for eg..be it cake and tea or a meal.. They are so nice and accommodating..
    • "I tried Viet Flavour and was disappointed.  Their summer rolls especially were not at all good, stodgy and flavourless.  Pho-OK.  I'm hoping it will get better " Back in June I posted as above.  I am glad to report that either the first time I went the restaurant was having an off day, or they have upped their game.  I ordered the same things.  The summer roll was exactly as it should be, and had a lovely dipping sauce. The Pho was delicious.  My brother who was with me wanted to give it 10/10 but I always think you should leave room for improvement so gave it 9/10.  Staff were lovely.  I am so glad because I love Vietnamese food and now think I have a very good one just round the corner.
