pink fringe
I am getting very frustrated with the 176 service. Again I was late to work because the 4.36pm 176 didn't arrive until 4.45. I do find the driver is always very apologetic. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/25721-176-not-on-time/ Share on other sites

susancarpenter
Oh golly. I have such problems in the morning. The 8.47 bus is always later! Nightmare when you need to rush to work. Where are you heading to? Perhaps we could find you an alternative route. KidKruger
There are phone apps for obtaining accurate bus running times, per bus stop, I use Bus Countdown, it tells me exactly how long before my bus will arrive so I can take alternate bus routes if necessary. The 176 bus is fairly regular - why not get the previous scheduled bus ? lane lover
I thought this was a joke thread? The only buses that appear on time are early in the morning (before 7am). Unfortunately, London has other traffic on the roads for most parts of the day and hence you get delays (surprise surprise). As KidKruger said, there are internet and smartphone applications that let you know when the next bus will arrive. Just plan ahead a little ... Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/25721-176-not-on-time/#findComment-578272 Share on other sites
Calsug
Since when did people rely on the timetable for buses?! You need to get a bus checker app or use the text number on the bus stop.As for the 176, it could be worse the P13 is only once ever 20 minutes... KidKruger
Actually Calsug, not even THAT at times, I checked my phone app this morning for P13 and it said 25 minutes until it arrived !!So I strolled to other bus stop and was on a bus in 1 min. That's where the app is useful, helps you reassess your route/options. Bic Basher
The app is very useful. Also it's worth getting the first 40 or 185 and changing at Camberwell Green for other buses to the Elephant, Waterloo, Aldwych and Trafalgar Square to cut time. YummyMummy01
The best way is to text the number on the bus stop with the code for that actual bus stop. I tried a few apps but never found them 100% but this always seems to be pretty accurate. I text it before I leave the house as takes me 5 mins to walk there and then I don't waste time or miss my bus. grecian girl
I used to live in High Brigham, Cockermouth in Cumbria and there was literally one X5 bus a day in and out - the P13 reminds me of that.. Alec John Moore
Luxury, I used to dream of riding on a bus, sitting at the front and pretending to be the driver. stephen509
Phone apps are perfect for me, has never let me down. Sue
stephen509 Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> Phone apps are perfect for me, has never let me> down. > xxxxxxxLet me down once when it said the first 37 was in about twenty five minutes time .... luckily I didn't do as another person at the same stop did who'd also looked via the app and start walking, as one actually turned up in about two minutes .... But usually they're great. Bus time apps not the 37 obviously :) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/25721-176-not-on-time/#findComment-578773 Share on other sites
Bic Basher
People complain about the 176 being a tad late, I'd vote for the 197 which is probably the second worst bus in ED after the P13 for reliability. I waited 30 mins a couple of weeks ago for a bus from Peckham Bus Station on a Thursday afternoon. It's timetabled to be every 12 minutes. KidKruger
...which is why the bus apps cut it for me, you do something with the time before your bus arrives, knowing how long you've got. KalamityKel
Altho it does depend where abouts you are to whether apps/tfl txt/the electronic boards work or not. I still get amused with the ghost bus and the one that comes out of nowhere* :)*simple things... KidKruger
It's technology, built and maintained by humans, so liable to glitches. There's no magic or guarantees available ! KalamityKel
no I don't think it's the technology... more the actual service provided - a bus not being where it should be ;-) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/25721-176-not-on-time/#findComment-578797 Share on other sites
